I've had more then a few people ask me about scuba training. I Belong to MassBayDivers scuba club (link in my signature). We meet at about 7p 1st monday of every month at South Shore Divers in Weymouth, MA

My Instructors that I trained with left South Shore divers & started their own independant training "shop"
http://scubasixdivers.com/index.html

John has been going to Cozumel for over 10 years, I've travelled with him 2x & have attended training courses with most of their staff (OK actually all of the staff).

I would highly recommend this group to anyone seeking training. Since our Dive club meets at South Shore divers, we can'r really advertise Scuba Six on our website (conflict of interest).

If you need any further info let me know

Senor Dave, I have never been scuba diving, Do you have to know how to swim?
I don't know how to swim, but I can float on my back without sinking and after a few shots of tequila I can do the back-stroke.
I will call today to get more info.

I'd like to take scuba lessons some day. Does this get you a certification? What time of the year the water is warm? :)

I'm certified PADI, but my girlfriend isn't.
I really want to take a trip to the keys or to cozumel (I'm tired of murky maine water), but she's not cool to dive!!
If we can get a group of fellow tank gazers together...it would be like a group buy.
It'd be pretty neat to get everyone certified and check out the -big- fish tank in our back yard.

I know South Shore Divers raised their class rate from $300 to $395. I do not know what Scuba Six charges. But the more people, the better the rate (of course). I know they have handled classes of over 10 people.

The water is warm NOW!! :D
I have a link to MassBayDivers in my sig- our scuba club home page - has a surface temp link. We had a "high" of 60 on the 90 degree days.
You do have to swim a certain distance to pass the course, and float in place (tread water).

An option for people when you go on vacation (I did it): Take a "resort" course - introduction to scuba & go on a couple tryout dives. Only problem is this is only good (to dive) while you are there, and costs about the same as being certified. It hooked me on diving!

They are Instructors & you will receive PADI certification as a diver (Open Water) as part of the course. I took my Open Water Cert here (1998), then joined John on a trip to Cozumel 6 months later & received my Advanced Cert while on vacation.

John is running a trip to Cozumel in November & has open spots. This is geared towards divers only (includes diving, air, transfers, & hotel), but has/could include people who are getting certified. John has been going for over 10 years & the Dive outfit he uses knows him & allows him (and his divers) to dive their computers. My longest dive was about 90 minutes. I even had close to a 60 minute total dive on the Devil's Throat (deep dive).
