It turns out, the tank is in downtown ogunquit, a long trip, and it might not even be available for pickup. The guy giving it away isn't the owner. He's an "aquarium maintainer" and it is a "customer" in ogunquit.

I hate to tell you guys this but ...... I got a call at 1:00 from someone that was on the way to pick it up

Sorry But :D for him
He is a club member and you all know him, Maybe he will post here ? :o

davidrupe

Well well well...
A man of action. While we all sit here chatting away and making plans, someone is actually getting the work done.
That is why some of us become wealthy while the rest of us don't. We are too busy talking about it and not acting on it.
Congrats to the Man...

The person "on the way" isn't going to get very far unless he has paid the piper or something.

The gentleman who is giving away the fish tank has not been contacted to the best of my knowledge, to set a time up to get into the business he owns. I'm waiting for him to set a time up for me to stop in, and he had not yet been contacted as of 30 minutes ago.

That said, I commend the person who can, at the drop of a hat make a 180g tank *<(disappear)>*!

Ray

I would love to go pick this tank up but I know a 180 is a little to big for my place at the moment....unless I set it up downstairs :)

TheUltimateNoob
07-19-2004, 05:05 PM
but it will fit in my house. if i can just find a ride. *hint* *hint*

scavdog
07-19-2004, 07:03 PM
I had spoken to the gentleman around 11 AM and he said he was going to look up the owner and call me back. I told him I would arrange for a ride, but needed to know when I could pick it up so I could plan my day. However I heard nothing all day long. I just called and found that someone else also contacted him an hour ago and said they would pick it up "definitely" tomorrow. I am now apparently in line whether I like it or not. It's up in the air now :(.

littlep93056
07-20-2004, 07:38 PM

TheUltimateNoob
07-20-2004, 07:53 PM

Piscevore
07-20-2004, 07:54 PM
The tank owner still hasn't contacted Tom. I have someone waiting to pick up the tank, but the guy isn't getting in touch with him.

Wish I had the space to store this baby.

I think I was the first to see this post on the morning of the 19th.

pretty hard to convince 3 friends to go move a tank that you won't use for several yrs. oh and by the way...can you store it in your house too? not happening

Scuba_Dave
07-21-2004, 11:48 PM
I have a big basement...:D

littlep93056
07-22-2004, 09:19 PM

Piscevore
07-22-2004, 10:08 PM
This wait is killing me... I might go up there tomorrow and just "help myself" :)

TheUltimateNoob
07-22-2004, 10:10 PM
not if i get there first.

Ray
07-23-2004, 05:36 AM
I read on reefs.org that someone was picking it up the morning of the 20th

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 11:13 AM
Yeah, That was me.
And the owner of the tank took his sweet time (all day) deciding to let us in. So it wasn't picked up. The owner, despite his generosity, is very un-reliable.

Scarfish
07-23-2004, 11:15 AM
that stinks, what happened? sounds like he did let you in eventually, but you didn't pick it up? I don't understand

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 11:39 AM
I just got off the phone with Tom again. We're -still- waiting to get let in :)

TheUltimateNoob
07-23-2004, 12:01 PM
so you're taking the tank piscevore?

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 12:03 PM
Almost positive. We're talking to the owner right this second (he finally called back) and arranging the pick up time.

TheUltimateNoob
07-23-2004, 12:05 PM
cool. what size tank do you have right now?

are you going to set the 180 up right away?

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 12:17 PM
My reef is currently a 40. I have a 72 bow tank I can't fill until I leave this apt. We just put a deposit down on a huge beach house in swampscott, and I will be able to set the 180 up there :)

Ray
07-23-2004, 12:20 PM
Nice so I can give you my 60G for a sump and take the 72 bow :)

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 12:23 PM
I tried to convince my gf to sell the bow tank, and she WON'T DO IT.
It was all planned out, I'd get rid of a couple 20's, sell the 72, put the money towards skimming and lights for the 180. She was like, hands down, NO. SHE wants teh bow tank. It will be -hers-.

No argument--her word is law

Haha!

davidrupe
07-23-2004, 12:52 PM
Uhoh!! And she is only a GF...Wait till she is a wife.
Oh, you can still make out on this one, Sell it to her! She isn't related yet. That is quite a generous gift. At a minimal, get some sort of credit. Count it as a Birthday/Christmas present...
I am assuming you don't have a joint bank account so she can't use the excuse, what is yours is mine and what is mine is mine.
:)

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 12:57 PM
We have a joint account, but!!!, we also have seperate ones :)
While I spend all my money on her fish tanks, she can pay the RENT instead :) hehehe

TheUltimateNoob
07-23-2004, 02:45 PM
she's got you by the balls.

scavdog
07-23-2004, 02:53 PM
Lol!

davidrupe
07-23-2004, 03:05 PM
Pisc...your weak!!
Take advantage of this while you can. If your relationship becomes legal, forgetaboutit. Take what you can now cuz soon it will ALL be hers.
Sell it to her!!!

She doesn't read these posts does she? I don't want her to come track me down...
;)

Piscevore
07-23-2004, 03:12 PM
David, watch out, she just applied for her conceal carry permit today:)

Fortunately, she doesn't read any of this :)

As it stands, I'm going up to maine in the morning, and we're picking up the tank.

davidrupe
07-23-2004, 03:28 PM
Good deal!! Glad you are going to get it.
At least someone on BRS is getting it.

marco67
07-24-2004, 08:10 AM
You guys have it all wrong.
This is a win - win, see you allow her to put her foot down and "make" you keep another tank. Now you get an extra tank and next time an issue comes up you were a good boy and let her have her way last time.

Piscevore
07-24-2004, 04:56 PM
Hehe. Amen Marco!

I have the tank! It has dual overflows, pre drilled, I even was able to save the bulkheads! The stand is in great shape, its got a sweet hood, even came with custom glass tops (i probably won't use em). The durso stands were all there, everything was in way better shape than I thought. The guy flipped out when only two of us showed up. He was telling us how we couldn't get it out,etc etc.... A guy I've worked with for a real long time knows I can carry 200lbs no sweat, and I know he can too, so we just said "F" it went just the two of us. We both grabbed an end, walked right out the back door. No steps, no bending, no railing. The guy didn't think we could carry the tank that far... hehehe. No sweat. We went out the back door, around the house, and into the dump body of Kev's Dodge V8. Grabbed stand, top, and we were done. I've got a free 180(woo hoo!)!! I'll post some pics later.

TheUltimateNoob

Damn that is insane.. I helped someone move a 150 before and that thing was so heavy.. I gave up and let a thirid persono help instead :) :)

BTW, is that house sitting right in front of the beach?

Scuba_Dave
07-24-2004, 11:36 PM
Nice, a 180 weighs in at 338 lbs, had to get mine out of a basement when I bought it. 2 people can carry it, but 4 are nice for safety

Piscevore
07-24-2004, 11:39 PM
Which house? I pulled the tank out of a Condo, right off of the main drag (no pun intended), in Ogunquit.

My new apt is located about 3 minutes brisk walk from the beach :)
I'm curious to see about grabbing my water from the beach!

reefsmurf
07-24-2004, 11:52 PM
The Swampscott place. I want a beach house.....

Is that safe, to use seawater? Isn't the water around here pretty poluted?

better keep an eye on the fish, they may pull a 'nemo' and make a run for it.
