coral reef skimmer question

Have you tried the gate valve mod on any of your skimmers? i would like to do it to mine to get rid of the sponges, also i was wondering if you know if a sedra 500 neddlewheel pump will fit on the 130 or be too much i dont think it will, i think the pump it came with was a 460 gph, just was wondering your opinion.

I don't see a problem with the gate valve mod, the only problem is the skimmer level will vary with sump water level, and you void all warranty.

The sedra5000 won't be too much pump I don't think.. I'm not sure it will be much different. The main reason I shy away from sedras is their habit of impeller swell and breakage.
