I finally got a camera - my husband bought me one for our anniversary. He decided to get me a small one that I can easily shove in my pocketbook for vacations (I guess he knows me too well after 17 years!). I got the Nikon Coolpix 5200. It's a great camera. I took it out to LA last week and, without even reading the manual, I was able to get some nice shots. I just started taking pictures of my tank today with a new tripod. I really need to learn about all of the manual settings to get some good shots. But here are a couple to get started. Any suggestions anyone has on how to get clearer shots of moving fish would be great! I took these with the autofocus feature.

Thanks,
starrfish

Hey, nice.
Nope no ideas on pics of moving fish.
You probably do have a movie feature on a Nikon Coolpix, though. Ya just can't post them here (too big).
Maybe just set up your tripod, get a chair, and keep snapping pics. It's not like a film-camera. Bad pics don't cost you anything. So take dozens of shots and select the best one.

Yeah, I had to take about 50 to get those 2!! But like you said, it's cheap and easy - just delete the bad ones.

can you drop the shutter speed? that would freeze motion

I don't think I can adjust shutter speed, but I'm not sure. I'm still reading the book - clearly I'm a novice at photography! Will adjusting the ISO make a difference? I don't think that's the same is shutter speed, is it? Probably a stupid question...but I really don't know much about this stuff.

i dont know much either .. maybe dropping exposure? thats less time with the flash open ? i think .. then if you have photoshop do the auto adjust and it will color it up for ya.. its worth a shot..eh?

Yeah, it's definitely worth a shot. I'm just going to take a bunch of pictures with all kinds of different settings...the beauty of digital.
