Hey, The clam thing is going to be new to me. My LFS told me that I could have a clam under 175watt. Well, NOT TRUE. He was found deceased on Sunday evening....so I want to do more homework and then try this again. That's why I need to talk to all of you experts!!!

Iffer tell us more about it. How long have you had the clam before it died? Was it a Maxima, Crocea or which clam? How deep from the water surface did you place the clam? And how far from the water surface is the bulb?
In a ~20" deep tank, if you use single-ended bulbs, a 250W(10K) is plenty for a clam. If you use double-ended a 150W (10K) might be fine. Maximas require more light than all other clams. I mentioned 10K because some 20K bulbs are very dim.

By the way I have a healthy crocea 20" below 175w.

Ifferfish,
It's even possible that the clam you had (if you haven't had it long) was diseased. It's unlikely, since most importers no longer have that problem, at least from what I've heard, but you never know.

heres the how to:
From San Diego to you in our large container that will hold up to 12 small lams (3" each) would be approx. $75.00 with the discount that we receive from FedEx. Your people could order their clams without the shipping container and in the remarks section indicate this is a group order for BRS and when you order your clams indicate the large shipping container as that will calculate your shipping cost and indicate phone order on check out. Then I will get back to you with the entire total for all clams, container and shipping and get your CC at that time. This link will also help you out.
http://clamsdirect.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=600
It is best to register for our news letter as I send one out when we know what day the clams will be posted on the server and let me warn you that they normally go fast so the link above will help you with the process and explain how our shopping cart works. http://clamsdirect.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=723 Truly a WYSIWYG shopping cart.
Hope this helps.
