Arnaldo -

No, you don't want a Rio 2100 (though you might want to go to Rio :)). Rio's have a real tendency to fail, sometimes badly. You should look at getting a Mag 9.5 (I think a Mag 7 puts out a similar amount of flow to the Rio 2100, but Mag 7's also have some reliability issues), depending on your application. On this, I speak from experience - and because I sometimes don't always learn from my first mistake, I have learned about Rios (and Mag 7's) from multiple experiences. Remember: Rio = problems.

After experiencing several Mag 9 failures whereby the pump just stopped and needed to be kick started I bought another Mag 9 and the same thing happened. It just does every once in a long while. I then asked several professionals what they thought the best pumps were. (these guys are world famous and noted authors Etc and a major brand manufacturer) The answer was the same for small pumps like these. Eheim. They have the least unexplained failure rate I was told. I haven't bought one yet, but eventually will. My Eheim on my Calc reactor has never failed and thats with it pumping all that junk.
BTW this is from a guy that has an extra Rio 2100...if you still want it.

Mantis,

Thanks for that info. What you're describing is the same problem I've had with the 7s. I have been using the 9.5 for about six or seven months now, and have switched my remaining mag 7 to non-critical use -- but, I thought the problem only affected the 7s. I'll keep the Eheim in mind for next time I need a pump (which hopefully won't be soon). I also have a Mag 18 - have you heard anything bad (or good) about them?

BTW, Arnaldo, if you do take the 2100 from Mantis, I can probably give you all kinds of spare parts from my old 2100s (and 2500s and 800s) that have failed in the past. :D They're sitting in a box in the basement, gathering dust, and I'm probably going to throw them out soon anyway, since I can't do anything with them.
