I would recommend getting one that you see eat frozen first hand. With the size and age of your tank, I'd be willing to bet the pod population will not be enough to support one. A 40g tank with 25g sump IMO won't allow enough pod growth for one. But, if you get one that eats frozen (or get pods in a bottle frequently) you should be fine.

Have you checked Lovely Pets in Quincy? They usually have them, but they usually are very small.

okay changed my mind...I saw my friend's mandarin and then wanted one really bad!! my tank is way too young and I don't want to starve such a beautiful fish! thanks for the PMs and thanks Steve for all the advice.

I would say give it until the end of the year to build up some pods. Do you have a fuge in your sump? You might want to add a small rock pile in your sump if not to give the pods another place to breed and grow so when you do add one it wont deplete the population
