Thanks Scott,
and Casino, I doubt it. :)
I have had my source for years, and they haven't been beaten yet. :)
just look at some of my old group buys, Aqua Addicts, and Skipton's
I am working on Skipton's lowering some of the prices that were put in place when I was gone. I am not sure what the guys that were there before me were thinking? :)

I am not sure what the guys that were there before me were thinking? :)-B-I couldnt have said it better. You still have alot to go to get in range of Sea Creatures prices.

Nope, I already beat em (on inverts)
and IMO it is a very bad practice to sell live animals out of the bag, without acclimating, and watching them first. Again IMO

With prices like that, things dont have a chance of getting acclimated. They are gone before he opens the boxes. Its a mad house when he gets his shipments. I know, im 1 of the mad ones thats there fighting for stuff.

my point exactly.
prices like that are not hard to do out of the box. I could do that all day long. It is just not my thing. As a matter of fact, I keep the lights off for most of the day after acclimation, and tell customers that they should really let there livestock stay in the shop for a bit (at least a couple of days), to ensure its health. But, if you want to come and take corals out of the box. By all means come on in when I get my order, and I am sure you will se the same can be done anywhere.
Again, I am not refering to corals or fish. I was talking about in stock, tanked for over a week inverts. Snails, hermits, shrimp, etc.

Thats just it. It dosent matter how long a speciment has been in the shop, he always has great prices. If a Hammer costs X amount out of the box...it will still cost X amount even it its there for a month. Seems to me alot of us are paying alot more just cause some LFS have these really nice show tanks. Ive been to some LFS in CT that I swore I would get charged just for looking at there tanks and dont get me started on their prices. Im sure you have great prices B, you are mentioned on here alot for it, but I have been to many stores in Mass and CT and I start to hyperventalate when I see some of the elevated prices. I know you wont let that happen to Skiptons.

I have heard different?
I won't get into a pissing war. I was mearly stating a fact about snails.(inverts)
Also, many people overlook the overhead and loss that goes in to running an LFS. The overhead is different for every store. If one store charges more, it could be that there rent is very high, or they have a well paid, knowledgeable staff, or the water & elec. bill are astronomical. It is ignorant to just walk in any store and cringe at high prices, without taking into consideration what that particular store has to clear just to stay in business. Not to mention the loss of livestock, and theft.
now off of my soapbox!? :)
as always, it is a constant fight for any LFS to stay alive in todays economy, especially in the Northeast. And I am hear to remind everyone what goes into running a succesfull LFS, (right ? anyone that knows me?!)I am always trying to get consumers see it from the LFS point of view.
as a matter of fact while in NJ this week I stopped by 2 LFS, and was horrified!!!!!
one was so disgusting(algea in every tank, half the tanks were evaporated several inches, almost all the fish looked stressed. They had a Remora(fish) in a 20g Xtra-high tank. Now this is a fish that swims with sharks. It had to be at least 8" long. It was very sad to see :( ) The other store had very little salt water, but the prices were through the roof!!!! Royal Grammas $30, Damsels $10, Astrea Snails $3, small uncolored Mushroom rocks $50, just to name a few things I saw. Now my mouth dropped when I saw these prices. The clerk I spoke to said they sell a decent amount of saltwater, I was amazed, but have quite a bit of loss, I wasn't amazed on that point. But if that is what they have to charge to survive, and there customers will pay those prices, then what is wrong with that?
Hopefully I can get to Absolutely Fish tomorrow/today to make up for it. AF is one of thr best LFS in the country, one of the only MAC certified stores on the east coast.
ahhhh, only someday do I wish to have enough money (or an investor ;) ) to do a LFS the right way, someday.......
sorry for Hijacking this thread

I couldnt agree with you more. Many stores do have degrading tanks, emplyees that dont know the diffrence between a tang and a goldfish, and they still sell alot. People that dont know alot are the ones who pay. And in the end thats why those bad LFS stay in buisness and the ones that know and really care about their customers comming back fail. I havent been to AF. I must go and see what they have. Must be a great place since everytime I go to Sea Creature, someone always has good things to say about the place. I think we can say we officially hijacked this thread. I know Moe will have are heads on a platter for this. Sorry Ray.

Trust me, I am used to my threads getting hijacked. lol :) (oldshool inside joke, from back in the day...)
Casino,
we should get together sometime and hit some LFS.
I will have to come down to Sea Creatures when he gets his shipment in. As I have only been there once. and I have to say I was not too impressed. But I would gladly give them plenty of chances. I could in no way judge the shop from 10 visits, let alone one.
off to AF Karl do you need me to pick you up anything???? lol

Haha
No problem these suckers have come and gone so chat away in my thread :)
B what is AF???
And I do have to say I for one have a different opinion of Skiptons since you are now there!!!
