Available the beginning of June '04---3-175 Watt Metal Halide Ballasts by Custom Sea Life. These are only 6 months old. Brand-new condition. Nothing wrong with them. Two cases, with 2 ballasts in one, and 1 in the other. Upgrading to 400 Watts. THIS IS FOR THE BALLASTS ONLY!!!!!!!!!$175.00 or Best Reasonable Offer.
If you do not already have Custom Sea Life lights, and are handy with wiring (or know someone who is), I will include the plugs and about 4 feet of cord to re-wire other sockets to these ballasts.
(That's what I am doing with my new 400's!)

Not to redirect the thread, but from the studies & reports I think 250w DE's would give you just as much light as 400's. How deep is your tank?

Tank is a 180 gal., 2 feet deep. What are DE's? A brand? I am open to all suggestions!

So now that you guys know everything that there is to know....what's it going to be?
Gut the whole hood and change over to 250 DEs or go 400s?
Not that you need a bunch of opinions, But just because that's what we do here let me just toss my $.02 into the mix.
Unless you are planning a hardcore SPS tank, are willing to deal with the heat issues and don't care about you electric bill. I think the 400s are over kill.
Of course the draw back to the 250's is you basicly keep nothing of what you have.

I have a 180g that I will be setting up w/Aquamedic Ocean lights - 250w DE. I have one in my 125g, they put out some great light. You can usually pu a complete setup, ballast, light fixture & bulb for $250 each

We are going 400! Going to stick with the fixture we have, and wire in the 400 ballasts. What's another 10 to 20 bucks on the electric bill? Can't take it with us! I have always said.."This hobby is NOT for the faint of wallet!"
