Hi My name is jenn, I have had my reef tank for almost a year now. I am excited to be on BRS cant wait to go my first meeting. I have spoken to some of you on R/C (waterbugjenn)<---me. Many have been very helpfull. Well I signed up for BRS a week ago and since then I am now having what I believe to be a "Brown Jelly" attack. My toadstool has now had an iodine dip a f/w dip and is now in quarintine. None of this seems to be affective, the toad stool is only getting worse. It is completely flopped over and withered. It is not dead yet and I fear even fragging it will make things worse. Is there anything that can be done to save the "toadie" and most importantly is the rest of tank in danger ? The Tank is mostly softies and a few LPS. The tank params are all fine alk is a little low about 7 dkh I am correcting that. This is a pic of the toadie I am losing 10 in tall with 8 in diameter head not including the polyps which are 2 in long. Have not had time to take a pic of present state. http://home.comcast.net/~jennyleep/images/LongpolypToadstool0207.jpg
Again glad to be a part of BRS. Thanks for any help. My tank can be viewed in the link.

Welcome to the BRS! I'm sure someone will chime in about the toadstool.

Have you tried our search option to see if there are any other threads on the brown slime?

Sorry to hear about the brown jelly infection. I'm almost positive it is not caused by joining the BRS ;)

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the Greetings all. Well The toadie has now been fragged. I could only save 1in of the base and 2 little pieces of the head. Yet to be seen if they make it.
Thanks Ray039, If you have toadie you would like to get rid of. I would love to have 1. :)
The sad thing is that I was going to frag the toadie this weekend. Would have had a dozen pieces to give to other reefers at a later frag swap.

Why yes it is! He is about 6in long now, the pic on my site is a few months ago. Then he was about 3.5in long.

has he touched any of your snails, hermits or shrimp yet? what are your plans for him when he outgrows your tank?

LOL, Yea he eyeballs everything in the tank hoping to eat it, but so far so good. I am sure that will end soon. I am planning on upgraing my reef to a 180 gal in the fall. He will remain behind in the 70 gal. When he outgrows that I hope to be able to get a 125. If he out grows that, I dont know - maybe an indoor pond would work. LOL Will have to see if the funds hold out.

Update;
Well its official the toadstool did not make, Bummer what a loss.
My green tree coral got infected with the brown jelly. I managed to save it thanks to John at SeaCreatures in Revere,MA. He told me to put an antibiotic paste on the cuts after removing the infected tissue. I did an iodine dip and a saltwater rinse dip and the antibiotic paste then into quarantine. The tree coral is now doing great, and I also have 2 new frags that are doing well. So far it looks like I managed to save the tank. No new outbreaks yet, still being cautious though. Maybe this will help someelse if they run into the same problem. Oh I also believe I found the cause of the infection. My water quality is great no prob there. It turns out 2 weeks before the infection began there was a 5 degree spike in temp from 78 to 83,for a full day. The room the tank was in was a constant 70*. The heaters and lighting were not at fault, and nothing is wrong with the pumps. Now the temp is back to normal with out changing anything at all in the system. Maybe someone has an answer for that one, I am at a loss.

Hello! Sorry to hear about your toadstool.....I just acquired my first one at the last meeting(auction) from Greg Hiller--and I love it(unfortunately so does my hippo who thinks he's a clownfish...:rolleyes: ). (BTW-thanks Greg, it has turned a gorgeous yellow and has beautiful long tentacles..when the hippo isn't sleeping on it)
