I am not ready for a clam yet, I don't think, but just out of curiosity:
What do you feed these guys? Plankton?
TheUltimateNoob

all clams require intense lighting. clams that are smaller than 3" require some feeding such as DT's phytoplankton. once they are larger than 3" they mostly just feed off the light. some people never feed their clams and have had success too. but i feed my small one phytoplankton.

So I've got the B-ionic going for me now, and my water is rock stable (despite such small volume) which helps in the grand scheme of raising creatures in a glass box, but I'm wary about lighting too.
I've got a custom sea life 130 watt PC on my 20 gal tank. One 10k and one blue actinic. I'm chinking the clam would either have to be elevated to very close to the surface, or given a MH pendant ?? :)

Piscevore are you thinking of buying this clam or are you just asking questions? If you're just asking questions about clams you should post it in the main forum so everyone can see it. Not to many people read the "for sale" threads. IMO you would need more light then what you have. This is a Derasa clam they like to sit on the substrate not the rocks. Also this is a large clam, its larger then a softball!
With that said its time for a price reduction!!!
Clam #2 the 6 inch T. Derasa is now only... $40!
What lighting is it under? My only worry in my tank is my Copperband picking at it.
How Far are you from Framingham? I will be out that way this weekend
Oh also does it get target fed at all?

A clam that size doesnt need to be fed at all :D That's a good deal!!
I do not mind feeding it, I just do not want to be feeding IT to my CBB :)

Its under 250 watt HQI's and no I don't target feed.
I wouldn't chance putting it in with a CBB though...

I'm sorry Gumhead, I don't mean to ask silly questions. I am entertaining the notion of a nice clam, but I don't think this is a prime candidate as A) real estate is currently at a premium in my 20 and B) I've got good lighting, but maybe not quite enough.

Piscevore your questions aren't silly I just think you would get more replies in the main forum.
I think I am going to get a small inexpensive clam to test the waters with the CBB this weekend and if it does not pick and you still have it at the time I will take it. I just do not want to chance it with a nice one like that. My CBB has been great so far and not picked at anything....knock on wood
ooopps nevermind I see on the RC thread Scott will take it :)
