Sanding acrylic?

I have two flat pieces of acrylic that I am going to use for my moonlights. The borders are very rough from cutting. How can I smooth them? Would regular sandpaper work ?

If you clamp it on edge, you can run a razor blade along the edge, or the side of a chisel. This will clean it up smoothly, then you can touch it up with sandpaper.
