A question about sand

I know that the best sand to use is sugar sized aragonite sand.
But I've read how other hobbiest are using Home Depot play sand.
Most mention something called'Southdown".Right now I have kind of a crushed coral substrate and would like to change that out someday.What is everyone's take on using playsand?
