I have a Salifert but want a better one. How are the Rowa Merck, Hanna colorimeter, Lamotte?

the Hanna colorimeter is really good. The club has one and it always gives good results if the test is done right.

Thanks Jay
I took one look, and said "yet another blasted reef expense" :D
Something like this is on my wish list after my ACIII is set up.

Do you have the high or low range one? Is it easy to use? Thanks:)

Steve, mine is the low range. It's pretty easy to use. All you have to do is to fill the test tube with your tank water & add the reagant, press a button, wait a few minutes, and voila, it'll show your phosphate level on the display. The only down side is you have to make sure the test tube is clean to get a good light transmission.

easy enough! Thanks for the input. I think i'll order one now.
I have one also, it has made a huge difference.

Just a tip: if you're undecided about whether to get a high range or low range test, and both tests have the same precision (normalized), then get the low range test -- you can always dilute your sample if your reading is too high, but you can't really concentrate it if its too low!

Thanks Matt. I ended up buying the low range. Will do my first test today...

I love this meter! I tested before and after a 5% water change and my phosphates went from 0.23 down to 0.04. Just goes to show the importance of water changes even though they can be a pain in the butt.

Steve, I agree with you. It's definetely worth it to get it.

Just as a reminder in the FWIW category, if you don't want to kick in the cash to purchase a Hanna meter, the club has one and can test your water if you bring a sample to a meeting.
