Looking at new ones, figure on buying one this week. Just in case I figured I'd post. Seems like I always buy something & the someone says...oh I have one I'm selling.....Looked at a Brinkman....at Lowes...thinking of getting it..

I got the weber a couple of years ago for fathers day and it has been the best grill I have ever had. I got the silver C (I think)...it has the 3 burner with side burner. A little pricey but great grill.

i have a webber too, no side burner. Nice grill but im not sure i really like the cast iron grates that home depot puts on theirs. thats what i have and they tend to get rusty alot and require cleaning. Food sticks to mine really easy too. Ive never met anyone who had a side burner who ever used it. Friend has one on a webber and said it is really slow if you try to do anything like boil water they said you basically have to boil it inside then bring it out to the side burner. They tried it the one time.

I hardley use it either but the next model down is a smaller cooking area with only 2 burners. My wife got lucky and paid for the smaller one and got the bigger one. I find if I don't burn it all off clean, it doesn't rust much. I usually burn if all off when I cook the next time and the grate is fine. I brush it and spray with Pam or something.

Yeah, the side burner BTU's can vary, from as low as 8,000 up to 12,000. I think the one I looked at was a 12,000 BTU side burner. I do have a "turkey" frier that I will be using for lobster. The side burner would be nice for melting butter, or just keeping food hot.
I really wasn't planning on spending more then $200 or so, which cancels out the weber's

On a side note, has anyone bought the large propane tanks? There is one at lows that looks about 4x the size of the normal tank for $79. Just wondering how easy it would be to fill. Looking at running the lobster frier & gas grille from one larger tank ---maybe.

Lobster's at Dave's? When? I have the big tripod burner, and cold beer....And, I live 15 minutes from some of the best lobster there is. Can get it off the boat in Maine!

Yes, we dive Cape Anne all the time. Our club dives (weather permitting) every weekend up there. All different sites

Webers are nice but way too expensive. Get a Kenmore. They're great and do the job really well.

Which corals (if any) and fish you can see when scuba diving around here?

You can snorkel & get lobster, free diving---. Lost of people do it. License to "fish" for lobster is $40 a year.
The FINE for a shorty or wrong lobster (female w/eggs. marked female, too large etc) is $100 or MORE PER LOBSTER. Plus they can (and WILL) take all of your gear used in catching the lobster.
The catch here is that they can wait until you are in your car. Thus you are using your car to transport illegal catch...goodbye car.

PLUS you have to go to court

Diving up here I have seen some nice fish, couple of sharks, some "rare" odd fish that no-one knew what they were. I saw a huge Mola Mola - circled me 3x before it swam away. Albino lobster - pure white, thought I was narced but only 35' of depth.
Not much in the way of corals that I can think of. Anemones...plus more..
It is a trip & a half to dive. But I would "try" it in warm water 1st
It's a LOT of work to dive around here, even from a boat

I just picked up a Kenmore at Sears, 4 burners plus a side burner, all stainless steal, enclosed bottom and 608 cubic inches of cooking space. I paid an arm and a leg for this model but there were a few in the 200-300 range that were really nice (non stainless)

Yeah, they especially like people who catch lobster from a boat. Then they wait until you hookup your boat to your nice expensive truck...and take the whole thing.
Not sure if or how many times they have done this, but they can

I think we are getting a Brinkman 2500 - stainless model for about $300
more then I really wanted to spend, but it's nice. Now I just have to find a store that has one in stock

Would be cool to see the lobster's family seating along with the defense lawyer in court. But I guess they'd be frightened by the judge's hammer.

How do these stand up to the weather over time? Any negatives/positives over the traditional black metal?

Not sure, but Brinkman lists a 99 year warranty on the stainless steel

Scuba_Dave

I guess I caan let you know how it stands up in a couple years :D
Found one, now I just need to pu & put it together. They will assemble for free, but then it won't fit in the vehicle
Idea behind stainless is you can clean it...polish it until it shines again, and there isn't any paint to peel

Well they loaded the grill in the car, I get home & there is a gouge in the box. And it goes alll the way thru & damaged the grill in the back. Not really visible, but a sure spot for rust to start right away. This thing is heavy, I have to call them tomorrow...:(

Walmart has another one, so I have to load this beast into the car & bring it back. Box is ripped to shreads... :(

Good that you have an SUV

Yes!!! Thing ways a ton...couldn't believe how heavy it is. Cast iron instead of the thin flimsy burners. Nice & heavy duty

So, 4 stores & 4 damaged grills later..I finally have an undamaged grill

Did you complain? That happened to me when I bought the Kenmore from Sears, 1st one I brought home and took out of the box was damaged, looked like they had dropped it, everything was bent on the grill! I ended up getting another 50 dollars off of the grill

Scuba_Dave

I only brought one home, the other damaged grilles were all at the stores. Close to $2k in damaged grills due to poor handling.
I was happy just to get a grill & get out & be done
