I just moved from Hudson, MA to Durham, CT.

I've had aquariums off and on since junior high school. Started with fresh water, stopped when I joined the Army after graduation in 1989. Started a fish only saltwater 20g tank in 1994 when I moved to Ft. Huachuca, Az. When we moved on base (free housing is great) I bought a 125g tank and stayed fish only. Moved to MA in Dec 1997, and set up the 125 fish only in our apartment.

Bought a house and there is no wall that is 6' long without a door or window in the whole house. Sold the 125 and set up a 29g drilled bottom as a fowlr (fish only with live rock - for other newbs). One night the bottom let go and dumped the water everywhere. Thankfully I had an empty 50 gallon breeder in the basement and transferred everything to that tank. Replaced the 29g in the living room and put the rock and stuff back in there. No space for the 50, and no stand/hood either. Then over time gave it to friends because of house renovations and plaster dust and concern for the health of the inhabitants. I kept the hardware however, in hopes of getting back in eventually.

So I have a new house and a home office that I work in during the day and a corner for the 29g again. I'd love a bigger tank, but the cost factor has to be considered. I have some live rock, and will get more over time to fill it up and make it look nice.

I go to law school part time in the evenings down in Hamden at Quinnipiac. Don't knock the "part time" bit though - I am taking 10 credit hours this semester (classes Mon nights through Thurs nights), and they are not light on the reading for each class. Not to mention the courses are about the law and why we have what we do, so we wind up studying some carzy old cases from the 1700's or before where the judges use words like thee, thou, and other phrases that we have no idea about today. Grr. Makes reading slow when you have to look up every fourth word or make up a meaning.

I'm kidding. I only make up meanings occasionally. :)

Hardware:

hang-on overflow with u-tube (afraid of the drilled bottoms still - silly or not)
10 gallon sump
CoralLife skimmer
Rio 1700 return pump
175W MH and 2 55W PCs in a DIY setup in the works
Typhoon III RO/DI picking up Friday morning from JustinH

Still need to figure out:

wave device to get alternating currents w/o pumping the water over the top

Welcome. Im new here myself. I live down in CT in Redding (near bethel, danbury) but I go to school up in Bean Town.

you could try a Switching Current Water Director (SCWD) to make some waves w/o extra plumbing etc. It uses the power of a pump and alternates the current between to returns...usually switches about ever 7-8 seconds
