i am using some warner marine calcium oxide kalkwasser and it says to use 1 teaspoon per gallon.my ph hasn't gone up at all so i was gonna try 2 teaspoons per gallon.has anyone ever used this product, and if so do u think 2 teaspoons per gallon would be too much.my ph as of now is 8.16 and i just would like it to be at least 8.3- 8.4.

Haven't used that product, but you can use 2 tablespoons/gal with no problem.

I wouldn't kalk to bring PH up, Check your KH ( alk ) if that is low then slowly increase the amount. I use kent kalk, max says 2 tsp per gallon. I use 3 tsp per 2 gal atm. Anything that raises your PH is going to raise you alkalinity.

You can read this thread for detailed info.

Kalkwasser is a balanced calcium and alkalinity supplement.
The pH of kalkwasser is around 12, if I recall correctly.
Marc (Marco) can attest to the pH power of kalk. The stuff packs a whallop.

This thread has some awesome info on kalk:

I assume here of course that you are talking about dissolving the stuff in Freshwater first and then using that for top off. If you add too much calcium hydroxide (or calcium oxide) to the freshwater, it just won't go into solution and therefore go to waste. Do not add the undissolved stuff to your tank.
