hey guys.. wondering who can help me to build/buy an inexpensive overflow. The return pump will be a mag 9.5, so with about 4 or so feet of head loss im probably looking at somewhere near 600 gph. I assume a single 1" drain can handle this much water?
Let me know if you guys have any ideas... i've seen people build them out of pvc pipe, but i have no idea where to start. Thanks...

Hi there,
my first post.
Found it on 3reef or reef central. Works wonders, with about 40 pages of discussions on getting it fine tuned. Cheap too...only 20 bucks. Hope this helps.

You could build one, but for all the tinkering around you could buy a heck of a nice one here:

The overflow in the link above should use a Durso Standpipe like shown here:
http://www.dursostandpipes.com/ if your overflow compartment can not accommodate a bulky Durso then you can cut the fittings down to size like shown here:
http://www.randystacye.com/dursostandpipe.htm
A decent overflow is worth the money. If money is no object then I'd get this overflow:

You will have MUCH better performance with any siphon overflow in comparison to one of those PVC constructed gizmos in the other post.
Just as a suggestion ... stay away from the CPR overflows. I haven't seen one CPR product worth bragging about. CPR overflows are a gimmick end of story. They rely on a pump to keep them from failing.
I’m all for a good DIY … don’t get me wrong, but a siphon overflow is not something you just slap together without know the principals that are involved. It’s not just a U-tube, an inner compartment and an outer compartment. There’s many things that can go wrong.
www.aquaticeco.com is a reputable company and their overflow is not junk, I own two of them and have been running them for many years. They just need a Durso Standpipe and they’re all set.
