CONTEST for $50 AA gift Card!!!!!!

We need a banner! Since I am a talent less hack (that's why I'm in the fish biz after all :)), I thought it might be fun to run a competition to see who, if anyone, can create a reasonably professional banner for Aqua Addicts to use on the BRS site. The winner will receive a $50 gift card for their efforts plus I'll be nice to them for the first 5 minutes they're in the store each time they come by in the next month! The only catch is that the banner has to be "reasonably professional". To help with that, I've convinced a small panel of people to approve submissions for entry to the contest and then we'll open it up to voting. Any submissions have to be done via email to banner@aquaaddicts.com and then we will pick the best of the bunch and submit it to the BRS for voting. All submissions become the property of Aqua Addicts. Thanks everyone!!!

Could you give us the constraints? size, file type? can you have multiple frames that cycle through like the Fishy Buisiness add? Anything in particular you want the add to convey?

I don't think that File size matters much... try to keep it under 90k and banner size should be 468x60.... Other than that, Do whatever you think you need to do to win :)!!!!!

You'll have to bug someone else, I'm not on the small panel of judges :). Even though it's scary as heck, it does draw the eye. You'd probabaly win if there was a most eye catching (but scary) banner!!!

Depending upon what you are using, usually you set the background (of th object - the fish) to clear. I've done it in Photoshop

I might suggest going to the sponsors page to review the quality of other banners to give you an idea of what I would guess Mike is hoping for... The only thing I would alter in terms of the technical requirements Mike mentioned relates to filesize...I would think the banner should be in the 20-30k range.

Animated gifs obviously work on the site (several other sponsors use them) but I would suggest making them either 1 and done animations (or with a long delay between repeat) as opposed to constantly repeating animations as those are generally quite annoying.

I was looking at the banners of the BRS and they range from 15-65 k thats why I suggest under 90k... As far as content goes, Do what you feel you need to do to win the contest...

That's a good point Mike, the size issue is something that I can help with after the banner is created...which is an issue I need to follow up with the other sponsors about now that I think of it!

Don't worry too much about filesize...I can help fix that if you win. If you want to give it a whirl on your own, you have to minimize the size of each individual frame. Some software packages do it for you...
