I came across www.reeftopia.com today. Great prices on cleanup crew stuff. Free shipping over $120. The really good deals are on way more cleaners than I need though. Anyone interested in combining an order?

Kim

I'm not interested in any snails/hermies but I am interested in picking up some shrimp and maybe a nudibranch or polyp or something. So if you end up purchasing let me know.

BTW I have ordered from them in the past and I had no problems.

I might be interested in some snails Mark. I put in a bunch of nassarius recently, and I haven't seen them since :(, so I'd like to restock if the price is right.

I was thinking nassarius also... yours don't even come out at feeding time?

I have placed a few orders with them and they have been great!

NateHanson
02-01-2005, 11:38 AM
No that's the thing. They were around for a week, but now I can't see a single one at feeding time. So I think they must have croaked. I have no idea why. Maybe a bad batch?

All my other snails (turbos, cerith, conch, astrea) are fine.

NateHanson

I don't see nassarius on their website. Am I missing them?

Reef55, where are you located? I would be interested but I wasn't sure where you live. Thanks. :)

Not sure how I missed the bottom of that page.

Anyways, I'd split a 50 pack of Vibex with someone.

I'm in for some Cerith and Nassarius snails. I have 3 Nassarius in my tank now and would like to add a few more (whatever you guys recommend is best for a 29 gal display). Also, I'd like to pursue a more natural and dentrivore-safe way to keep my sand clean - Cerith is next on my list of things to try (the Fighting Conch is doing well, but needs more help). So, maybe half-dozen of each, Nassarius and Cerith? If there are some blue-legged hermits left-over, I'd be interested in those, as well... probably about the same amount - half-dozen.

I'm hoping someone (Mark?) can hold on to them for me until I can get out to you... would expect that it wouldn't take me more than a week to schedule a visit to the eastern part of the state. Would be a good time to buy a few frags, too!

Holy cow, there is a little blurb on reeftopia that suggests 2 Nassarius / gal... Do I really want 60 in my tank???

JWeb
02-01-2005, 02:07 PM
OH, and I'll take the free mug :)

NateHanson
02-01-2005, 02:58 PM
THE FREE MUG IS MINE!!!

Jeff, 2/gal is probably a little steep, but not way out of the ballpark. I'd probably put 2 dozen in your tank. They're small.

I'll take a pair of lettuce Nudis (if AA didn't get any today, which they don't think they did).

JWeb

On Nate's advisement, sign me up for 1 dozen Nassarius, 1 dozen Cerith and a half-dozen of blue-legged hermits.

I notice the price break occurs at "4" with Nudis... seems like 3 are spoken for and I would entertain 1 for my tank. How do these critters impact "bioload"? Positive or negative? Do they really only last "a few months" as Reeftopia suggests?

Good stuff... great suggestion Mark.

NateHanson
02-01-2005, 05:50 PM
It seems that nudibranchs, in general, tend to have rather particular appetites. So when their obligate food source is exhausted they might well starve to death. But there's ALWAYS another reefer with hair algae, so you could probably sell/give/trade it to someone else when he's done in your tank. If you don't have green algae in your tank, I probably wouldn't buy a lettuce nudibranch.

But I'll bet JMKeary would want one as well, so I don't think we'll have trouble reaching 4 nudis.

NateHanson

Even cheaper if we buy 12.

Does anyone know if these will propagate in your tank, like some nudis do?

How do these critters impact "bioload"? Positive or negative?
I'd say they're probably a wash. Although a big one (I think they can grow to 4") could cause a water quality issue if it died.

Do they really only last "a few months" as Reeftopia suggests?

It looks to me from that Nudi webpage, that the "usually dies in a few months" is refering to the unnamed blue nudi right below the lettuce nudi. Although, I don't know how long Lettuce nudis tend to last.

Did you guys see the "Lot pricing" page? Gives price breaks if we have lots of interest. http://www.reeftopia.com/completecatalog-a.htm

I'll jump in on this group buy too...

Definitely sign my up for one lettuce nudibranch. I don't have much hair algae, but I would really like to try one to see how they work.

I'll also take a dozen scarlet reef hermits

and I'll take a dozen Nerite snails and a dozen cerinth snails.

In sum, I would like:
1 Lettuce Nudi
12 Scarlett Hermits
12 Cerinth Snails
12 Nerite Snails

FYI, I was considering placing a very large order from Reeftopia as well. I need a complete clean-up crew for my 340...but looking around, I think you'll find most local vendors will come fairly close to what you'll find from Reeftopia or any other online vendor. To each his own but thought I'd throw that out there...

Kim
02-01-2005, 07:42 PM
I will need some lettuce nudi's. I bought 4 from them a few months ago, all are missing now although I did have 2 babies in the tank for awhile. Now I only have 1 baby. I know they were babies and not the nudi's getting smaller from not eating because
1. I have Bryopsis
2. I saw the eggs laid all over my tank.
3. The baby has gotten bigger, a lot bigger than when I first found him.

The nudi's tend to go missing in my tank before they die (down the sump etc) although I had 2 get eaten by my fungia plate.

NateHanson

I'll take 2 nudis.

NateHanson

Mark is in Haverhill, MA

Anyone else interested in this??

Mark, when do you want to place this order? Let me know if I can help any way. If some folks want to pick up during the day, they could pick up from me in Lawrence. Whatever helps.

Nate

Reef55

Pick up will be in Haverhill, MA. As there are multiple posts from people, each person please post in a list what they want.

Example:
12 - Cerith snails
4 - peppermint shrimp
etc

I'll place this order tomorrow morning (Thursday morning) at 9AM EST, so the order will arrive on Friday.

For Jeff:
12 nassarius vibex
12 cerith
6 blue-legged hermits
1 lettuce nudibranch

Mark, there is a chance I'll be traveling from Providence -> Amherst on Sunday afternoon before the game (still tentative)... will that work for you? Otherwise, it might take me until the following weekend! I don't want to be any trouble - it sounds like you may have tons of livestock delieverd to your door.

I'd like to get a couple of lettuce nudis too, and if possible (don't know if/how this impacts shipping costs) an Ultra Purple Gorgonian. If there is any additional charge for the gorgonian, please disregard this, and order just the nudis.

I can pick up sometime during the late afternoon on Friday, is that ok? Also, what do you want to do for payment? paypal? or cash upon pick up?

So, to summarize...

For Nuno:
2 lettuce nudis
1 Ultra Purple Gorgonian (only if there are no additional shipping charges)

Thanks,
Nuno

Thanks Jeff. Hope the critters make the trip ok. At least they have a nice warm day to travel.

I'd like to stop by tonight, as I'm going away for the weekend. Sometime between 6 and 8 would be best for me. My wifes working late tonight, so Lilja and I are game for a little critter party. :)

Sorry to be a pain, guys... they should have settled Amherst a bit closer to Boston.
