I need one and would like to pay a little over 20$
There was a group buy for these a couple months ago... just looked up the info and it looks like if we get 10 they are ~22$ each.
if any local shops are thinking of a deal on these with the RO/DI sales, post here :) because people getting new RO/DIs might want to pick one of these up.
anyone interested?

What one , do you have a particular one in mind , the price range varys on them

here is the link from the last group buy
http://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/index/p1228/1228/None/None
the model was: DM-1 In-Line Dual TDS Meter
I would be fine with that one... looks like the basic standard type. but would be happy with any unit that works well if anyone has different suggestions
is there a big advantage to more expensive units? i am guessing all they do is measure resistance so i can not see why a more expensive unit has much worth for this kind of application

How do you set those up with the RO/DI system? I might be interested if the price is right on it.

I "lost" a box of expensive aquarium gadgets and a box of expensive tools in the move to my new place. (I tipped those movers really well, too. ) Just realized my hand held TDS meter is also missing.
Thinking out loud...
I have a four stage: micron, carbon, RO, DI.
There are several points worth measuring, since the different system components are replaced at different times:
Tap
after micron cartridge
after carbon
after RO
after DI
Although the tap quality is interesting to know, it's not likely to vary much in the short term. Even if it does, that's a bigger problem than the scope we are talking about. So, not a critical test point.
The micron cartridge can be tested visually. (If it looks nasty, change it.) So, not a critical test point. On my system, you could not easily add a monitor connection after this point anyway.
Wouldn't after the carbon stage be a really useful, if not critical, test point? I was told that I should replace carbon roughly once for every two micron cartridge changes. If I had a test point here, I could see how much improvement a new micron cartridge made and decide whether or not to swap out carbon at that time. So, a useful test point.
After your RO stage is the key measure for drinking water purity. So, a critical test point.
DI swap outs will vary widely depending on source water and use rate, and this is the key measure for aquarium health. So, a critical test point.
Question: have I just talked myself into buying two test units? :D

looks like it

My DI cartridge changes colors as it gets closer to the end of its useful life. Maybe you don't need a TDS test point there. I wonder how reliable this visual test is?
I still want two. :D
What's the likely time frame? I finally got my granite counter drilled a couple of weeks ago, so I want to set up my RO\DI ASAP and move on to the next challenge. Like buying a tank.

I would like to grab one soon too... set up my RO/DI, but want to make sure it is working well before using it for the aquarium-
looks like we have 6 interested so far, if we get 4 more we can set up an order online for the price break at 10, still haven't heard if any sponser is interested :)

thought i would check one more time if anyone else is interested in one or 2 of these- looks like we still need 4 more to get the price break online, or a nice local sponsor :) who would like to set up a group price

I might need one. I still don't know. Depending if I buy an RoDi soon enough. Any recommendation on RoDi unit?
natehat

It seems like an hard question to answer... if you search for RO/DI in this forum you will find a lot of advice. I just got a used one form some guy on craigslist who bought it then changed his mind about needing it. I would go for cheapest myself, with a TDS meter you can tell if it is working right anyway. only thing i would recommend for sure if you are going to use it for drinking water is a holding tank, because without it you will wait too long for a glass of water if you are impatient-
Marco at fishy business was having a sale this month on them

A dual meter (like the one on this thread) will allow you to measure TDS after RO and after DI (or before and after RO), one unit should be enough to calculate membrane efficiency and/or to know when to replace filters/resin. Unless you want to measure TDS before RO, after RO, and after DI, in which case you'd need two units (or a dual unit plus a handheld meter).

Hey All... i made the original post, but since the total only ever got to 8 (10 units were needed to get the price break), i just let it go.
Looks like there are a bunch more people interested in getting one of these- i still need one too and am still happy to organize it.
so lets do it this way to make it easier since i am not sure who from the older postings is still interested.
Send me a _PM_ stating that you for sure are in, lets say by this sunday. Then monday i will post the list of who wants one (or more) and i will place the order next week if the total gets past 10 which it looks like it will.
figure on adding a buck or 2 of the stated price $21.56 depending on their shipping costs and how many we order
pickup would be in JP in the evening or possibly can meet near the longwood med area during the day if it is easier for a few.
Any chance of picking up at the meeting?
natehat

not sure if i will be able to make it to the meeting this month, always end up having work that day :(
maybe someone who is 100% will volunteer to bring them to the meeting if i can not make it :)

aha 24, sure you are pretty far away it looks like... you would have to add 3.85 for priority mail to whatever the total works out to. paypal is fine.
So far 7 people are confirmed:
1 natehat (me)
1 Reef55
1 Armando
1 TOOMANYFISH
1 97vmax
1 aha24
1 ltelus

cooooool... that makes 10 confirmed.
still will give people till sunday to sign up, since it is a pretty sweet discount and don't want to leave anyone out who was interested.
i will place the order monday morning, so if all goes well they will be in by next weekend. I will pay with my credit card... you can pay me however you like cash or check is fine.
i am really not familiar with paypal... i do have an account (which i have used to pay others but never to receive), It is a personal account which i think is not able to take $$ generated from credit or debit cards. so for aha 24 if you prefer to use paypal think it has to be from cash you loaded to paypal... of course you can just send me a check if it is easier.

Nate i believe paypal will charge you % for recieving cash when there are no goods involved,in that i mean you did'nt physically list and sell an item.
I say this because a guy at work needed to pay for something with his paypal account but did'nt have the funds there so gave me the cash and i transferred funds from my paypal account to his.He got charged a couple of % on the transaction. There may have been another reason he was charged but i wanted you to be aware before you open your doors to accepting paypal.
Someone may know how to get around this charge if they do please chime in!
-Liam.

You're both right... personal accounts can't receive credit card payments, you need to upgrade to a premium account for that (it's free). However, once you have a premium account, you get charged a 2.9% + $0.30 fee for each payment you receive, regardless of where the funds come from (credit card, paypal balance, etc).
The issue with paying for goods or just transfering money is a different one, and I believe there are additional fees if you're just transferring money (it counts as a cash advance on the credit card).

Right... so if you have paypal linked to a bank account there are no fees for transfer. That is why i left my account as a personal one- then you can transfer cash between people with no charge at all (of course except the risk of having a bank account linked to paypal  )
anyway people can pay me whatever way works... i am more than happy to try paypal, it is only a little over 20$ so it should not be too hard to figure something out

This is just an odd idea, but would anyone else be interested in what eachother's readings are? Maybe a tap reading and an RO reading with info about where you are and what RO unit you're using? I thought this might be kind of interesting and considering we're all receiving the same unit, I think the results should be pretty accurate. But then again I am just a big geek, and everyone probably thinks I'm nuts. LMK
