I think we'll forgo the the contracts and gray areas.
Here's how I'd call it;
Tank on the stand with a splash of water in it = FAIL
Tank with sand rock and water circulating = WIN
Tank with no sand or rock but water circulating = FAIL

Sorry this is not the new Mass education system, there are no points for trying and falling short and no "poor little Paul he tried so hard we can't hurt his feelings". This is the hard cold real world step up or FAIL :D

Due to unforeseen circumstances with my tank, I'm going to bow out of "The paulthomas build bet." I've got a couple concerns that I discussed with Derek of Miracles and he offered to build me a new tank. Once that tank is delivered, I'll be swapping it out for the current one.

Derek and his partner are reputable business men with true integrity. They're also VERY nice guys. I honestly cannot say enough good things about them. :)

So what happened to the tank?

The morning after I got the tank, when I inspected it thoroughly in daylight, I saw ~ a 3" white, smudge-like mark in the seam at the top of the front panel. It was first thought to be a portion of the black silicone, still curing. No one is sure why it's there. But I followed Miracles' instructions and it hasn't changed in appearance. They believe it's purely cosmetic, but gave me the option of getting a new tank. I felt very guilty about taking them up on the offer, but they insisted that I not feel bad about it. Derek said that I paid good money for the tank and that he wants me to be completely happy with it. Again, I can't say enough great tihngs about him and Miracles Aquariums as a whole.

I know it. I don't think there are many companies out there that would stand behind their product the way that Miracles is. They are truly awesome.

wow...they are going to rebuild the entire tank because of the white mark? That's amazing customer service.....I know where I'm getting my custom tank from. I wouldn't expect a tank rebuild unless the thing was leaking water like a sieve lol

I believe the bet was 30 days after delivery of a usable tank, Jay. If the manufacturer is declaring the tank defective and are going to replace it with a new tank, I think the bet should transfer to receipt of the new tank. I'm not backing out of the bet, but this was out of Paul's control. I still say Paul can get the tank up and running within 30 days of receipt of an acceptable tank! ;):)

Again, they believe the issue is cosmetic. But they offered to do this and insist that I not feel guilty about it. I can't get over it. Honestly, I'm beside myself.

Their commitment to service speaks volumes IMO and is a testament to their longevity in the business. As a matter of fact, they already started the new build! ::

I was just at Paul's place this morning and the tank does to have defects in it. It's great that Americal is sending him a new tank that he deserves. I would not live with that kind of defects if I'm having that much for a custom build tank.

A bet is a bet. You'll have your bottle of Dalwhinnie. Due to the fact that it was a manufacturing issue, I feel it would be a generous act if the bottle that I deliver to you on friday makes an appearance at Scotch night on Saturday. :D What say you? I'm just thinking of your campaign...you could win over a few votes from some of the other participants!

Hey Brian...the next tank IS tank #4, if you have followed the trails and tribulations of Paul '2-drii' Thomas. He bought, then sold the first 2, and this one is #3, with cosmetic issues. I'm leaning towards believing he might have actually set this one up, 'cuz he even bought fish this time. It might have been an elaborate smokescreen though. :p

Hey Paul, lemme know if Miracles wants to save the return shipping $ and sell me that tank for a few hundred bucks. It would make a great frag tank in my fish room. :D
