these aren't cheap, but we should be able to get a group discount
with that being said we may have a vendor who can get some great pricing on chillers.
i know i need one.

if anyone else out there knows of a good source or has a specific brand in mind..... please speak up.

here's some info from the web:

Chillers and Heaters
Providing a stable temperature is extremely important to the creatures residing in your captive ecosystem. Their natural environment, the ocean, has enormous water capacity which changes temperature very gradually. The varieties of life forms we maintain in our systems come from substantially different environments and they adapt to their new home, our aquariums, with a very remarkable tolerance. Rapid fluctuation in the any of the water parameter stresses the inhabitants and can lead to sickness or death.

Unfortunately, even the largest captive ecosystem simply does not have the ability to maintain the same stability as Mother Nature. We need to utilize heaters and chillers to compensate for our lack of volume. There are many factors that impact temperature of our systems, such as room temperature, high intensity light, pumps etc.

Proper sizing of heaters and chillers is based upon the number of degrees that you must compensate for in order to maintain a stable temperature.
Here are some general guidelines:

Heaters: its recommended that you utilize at least 3-5 watts per gallon when heating your aquarium.

Please refer to the chart below for a guideline to correct chiller sizing:

1/5 horsepower = 75-125 gallons
1/4 horsepower = 125-160 gallons
1/3 horsepower = 160-300 gallons
1/2 horsepower = 300-500 gallons
3/4 horsepower = 500-750 gallons
1 horsepower = 750-1400 gallons

The new tank was up to 80.4 yesterday without the lights on. Not sure what today will bring. I need central AC or a chiller...

My tank was up to 82 with only 2 MH on. No fans as of yet. I have to break down & install fans ASAP, basement has "warmed" up to 70 (from a low of 49 this winter). I need to put a vent & fan in down there too.
House was up to 78 when I got home from Sox game. Time to put the A/C in

I have someone who is interested in buying a chiller.

dave, plan on running 1 or 2? your probably going to need a 1 1/2hp or 2hp to keep it cool depending on AC.
what sizes? want inline or drop in?

Scuba_Dave

I'm thinking of 1 for now, with a passive chilling system built into the garage floor (25' x 36'). Not sure how much tubing I'll put in the garage floor. I guess it depends upon cost & how big a roll I can get.
I'm thinking inline would be better. But what do I know?
I have no preference or knowledge (yet) as to who makes a better chiller

I have a Medusa controller, but it will only handle up to a 1/2 hp...
Ok Aqualogic controller is seperate....
Aqualogic 1.5 hp lists at $3225!!?? Ouch
I'm thinking (2) would be better

In addition there is a going to be a 24,000 btu A/C in the room
