Very nice!
So, did you swap out the 2 Tunze's for a pair Vortec's? Any particular reason? How do they compare? I'm especially interested in difference in noise level.

Thanks for sharing.

I swapped out the tunze's for 1 vortech. The vortech's have a little hum, but I do like the flow pattern of the Vortech's better , although I never had a single problem with the Tunze's. The Bubble King I just got , it is priceless

Also the tunze's are virtually silent, but way to bulky for my cube.

very nice tank.. cool to see it change right in front of your eyes like that. I love the equipment progression too... looks like my tank =).

I'm thinking about a vortech in my 75 gallon along with maybe a tunze nano stream or 2 for just a little bit extra... but i do hear a lot about the "hum" or vortechs. How bad is it? I ask not because i think it's bad, but my tank is right next to my bed... The vortech would probably be like 6 or 7 feet from my head as i sleep... is it loud enough for me to really notice it? I'm used to a bit of noise from the tank... but i do have one maxijet that i shut off at night because it makes an annoying noise every couple of seconds... just don't want to run into that issue with the vortech.

I wonder if the night mode setting might make the vortech not as loud?

I wonder if the night mode setting might make the vortech not as loud?

i think it might, as it calms the flow down a bit... but if i don't have any other powerheads in the tank i might still want to run it full blast

Awesome Setup!!!!!! That tank has seen alot of changes. How old is the setup?

prand
05-26-2009, 08:28 PM
Tank is about 2 years old. The hum of the vortech will cause sleepless nights if it is 6 feet away from your head. But that is me as I am a light sleeper.

hmmm not what i wanted to hear :o . Would it be drowned out by the sound of an overflow that is 2 feet from my head? lol...

prand
05-26-2009, 10:46 PM
If that overflow doesn't keep you up , the mp40w should be good to go. These powerheads are by far my favorite . I have had tunze 6000's, 6100's, 6055's, with multicontroller and never had a problem with them. I did not like their bulkiness . The mp40w are pretty neat on how they work. Definately can't go wrong with either.

I'd say you'd be all set. I don't have a vortech but I've heard them on other peoples tank. Only thing that would annoy me is that pulsing mode, that might keep me up but full blast I don't think it's loud at all but that's just me and I can sleep through anything if I can stand the noise... :D

yeah, that's pretty much the way i am too.... i'm thinking/ hoping it would be drowned out by the overflow gurgling and the noise that the air condition makes.

Wow pete sick tank and keep the pics comming..........not to de-rail, but joel the Vortechs are only noisy in wave or "pulse' mode if you run it at constant or either reef crest or lagoon random it will be quiet......overflows are way louder....

not sure if I asked this already but, what size vortech is that?(mp20?) and how is the flow? I have 2 6045s and 1 6025 in my 60cube and it seems like the tank needs more flow. Ive been looking at a mp20 but hesitant to drop 300 when I have quality pumps already. Do you have any regrets on your purchase?

and a question on lighting, i have a 250w radium over my tank as well except I have a lumenbright3 and bluewave3 ballast...my question is how did you get the t5s over the tank? did you attach to the reflector or build a hood? any pics?? Ive been thinking of a way to add 2x24w T5s for the dusk dawn effect but Im a little stumped as to how to go about it without it looking like junk as its in the middle of my living room.

I have 2 mp40's which is way overkill :) but 1 mp 20 was not enough for my buddy's 60 cube. I got them at 65% at it works perfect. Only regret is price ::
The T5 reflectors are built into hood with 1x2's for standoff's on both sides of the lumenarc reflector and fits like a glove. Sorry no pics. Also got a Powerbrite module in there for moonlights
