how much is shipping

marco67

Depends on your order and your zip,
but 40# to the NE area runs about $20
You can pull an exact quote on the web site, you don't need to sign in or check out.
just add something to a cart and enter your zip.

Thanks
That feature will always be included in my sites. One big pet peeve I have is long complicated check outs and needing to get 3 pages in just for a shipping quote.

FWIW we are working to release a new site with a simple 1 page check out and of course that shipping calculator.

How does that group buy/wholesale work

how much rock needs to be purchased to get that?

marco67
07-01-2009, 06:53 AM
Well wholesale is for stores and other industry resellers so those prices don't get posted.
Group buys get 10% off at 500# and 15% at 700+
So if you did 500# of rock you get 10% off the rock and 500# of sand free. Shipping would be on 1000#.

Just added 160# of sand (delivered) to the $99 specials :)

Oh
Added these too :)

Marc,

What are the chances of getting Key Largo rock via your site that are on the "flat" side? ;)

Real good! We are always happy to fill requests. The flats are "best available" when requested I can check this morning and see what we have right now but I also have a delivery coming sometime in the next few days Too Fly/ I mean to pick from.

Marc have you figured out how to manipulate time??? My sand sample was in the mail box today! I wish all places shipped that fast.

The sand has my vote for our new tank, it just needs to get Jens approval:p.

Our deliveries are to the Key Largo warehouse.
Trucking up here adds an extra $.40/Lb to cost so without making a new price structure for Cape Cod all of our ship outs are from Key Largo.

Sounds good to me. So if I want 100-150 lbs. of flattish Key Largo rock shipped to my house, just order it from your site?

Hey Marc,

I had an issue with ordering 150 lbs. of rock via your site. I tried ordering both 150 lbs. and 50 lbs. (three individual orders) and shipping came back as "shipping is not available to that address." I'll give you a call tomorrow to order the rock.

Thanks,
Paulie

Question on the key largo special 40+40... Is that smart start rock? or do i need to cook and cycle the rock? I'm going to be moving soon and upgrading from a 46bow to a 75 and 40lb rock plus 40 lb sand should do it. Just wondering if i need to cycle the rock first or if i can get away without it if i'm in a time crunch.

marco67
07-20-2009, 06:24 PM
It is safe to put straight in,
But depending on how much you are adding and how established your system it may still not be the best idea.
I like to at least run it in a separate tank/ Rubbermaid for a week (give take) with something to seed it biologically first.(I use the Fritz Turbostart 900)
This will help to avoid the diatom outbreak that's common when adding any large mass to a system.

Thanks for thinking of us
Marc

With the opening of the Key Largo warehouse and having a partner down there that is responsible for managing it. I now have the luxury of concentrating on nothing but sales, marketing and Customer service.
It's been great to once again be able to answer phones and give each order the personal attention that I originally started and built the business on.

UncleJT

whats the best way to clean it?
Best way? No way. :D You don't need/want to do anything to live sand or you'll clean away all the goodies you bought the live sand for in the first place.

molsen187
07-31-2009, 08:24 AM
i thought the argonite sand wasn't live sand and that i was supposed to add some live sand from another person's established tank to make it live. i thought i was supposed to rinse the sand before i put it in my tank.

Brimc
07-31-2009, 11:56 AM
I just started setting up my new system and ordered 160lbs of this sand, this is not live sand and I don't think Marc ever claimed it to be live sand. On the cleaning maybe not but rinsing "absolutly" This sand is extreamly silty and if you do not rinse it you will forever be having sand storms. In the box there is a card that explains how to rinse the sand. I ended up taking ten pounds at a time in a large 3 gallon steaming pot and flushed the sand for a minimum of fifteen minutes each ten pounds. When I added water to the tank I placed a plate on the sand and added water gently to the tank I ended up with a silty sand storm again. I let the water settle over night and in the AM the water was still murky. I ended up using a gravel vac and vacuuming out the top layer of silt and then revacuuming the entire sand bed. My total loss for silt was roughly 5 to 7 pounds but well worth it. Just let my note that I am a fanatic then it comes to not having sand storms in my tank  . My final result was a very nice white, soft, great looking sandbed with minimum blowing around.

molsen187
07-31-2009, 01:43 PM
thanks. i knew it wasn't live sand thats why i was asking what the best way to clean it was. i didn't realize there were instructiond in the box.

Brimc
07-31-2009, 05:11 PM
Go above and beyond the instructions

marco67
07-31-2009, 05:43 PM
I think it's pretty well covered here but
No this isn't live sand
and yes a good rinsing is needed thats why we put those cards in each box.

Remember too any sand (or at least fine enough to look nice sand) needs to liven up before it will sit down in flow.

At the shop we have 300 gallon rubber maids with about 400# in each we run 5000 GPH through that system so I can promise you it will sit down!
FWIW we didn't rinse, only because rinsing 2000 lbs of sand was just well..... not in the cards.

UncleJT
07-31-2009, 06:49 PM
Ok, I thought Marc sold live sand. My apologies.. confusing him with someone else.

Brimc
07-31-2009, 07:20 PM
What, Marc ? You didn't wash 2000 pounds of sand??? I think that calls for a recall how do I send my sand back.
:D :p ;) Just kidding this product is great And looks even better.

When I finish transfering everything I will be posting pictures. Or should I say when I put Alisons dining room back together I will post pictures.

marco67

LOL
"Do what I say not as I do"

What I say
"be sure to rinse well before using!"

What I do
throw it all in and let time work it out :)

But in fairness we have an advantage in Key Largo that we'll never get up here.
An 18" 18' deep well on each side of the property.
A pentair inteliflo pump capable of 12,000 gph,
Beautiful Keys sea water filtered through nearly solid lime stone out of one hole through the system and dumping into the other hole.

So as you can imagine not too worried about water clouding down there.

molsen187
08-01-2009, 08:51 AM
so if i don't rinse the sand i won't be having sandstorms for ever. i plan on rinsing it, just going to take forever using 5g buckets.

marco67
08-01-2009, 11:46 AM
For a closed system I'd rinse for sure.
My point was that in a open system (non recirculating) I was able to "cheat".
Even without rinsing and even pumping an excessive flow rate it eventually livens up and sits down.

Hey Marc,
