Hey Marc-- What the size of the grain on your new sand like? I'm considering ordering a 20lb bag to add a bit more to my new tank... i'm worried however that if it's "sugar fine" it might be to lightweight and get blown around to much, and or sucked up with regular vacuuming??

It's much finer than sugar,
best I can count it's 9,842 grains per inch

You'd be surprised, there's something about this sand, it's super fine, super soft and yet it sits right down.

It's not just grain size that contributes to sand blowing around, as long as you flow is "reasonable" and you seed it well it sits down nice.
Now if you are hard core sps and considering 2 MP40s in a 30 cube then ..... well :p

FWIW we're shipping ~1000#/ day right now and I've honestly only had one inquiry about "cloudy" water. That was from a customer that said after 3 days her water was still a "milkshake" It turns out she had sand water and nothing else in the tank

LOL....how long did it take you?
LOL about 3 secs

I can honestly say the sand does sit down after a bit of livening up. I am still setting up the 65 and I have 120 lbs on the bottom. I had it sitting a few weeks before realizing that I wanted to put 1/4 acrylic on the bottom of the tank and do a rod system. I removed all the sand and put it back about a week ago. Right now I have 2 aquaclear 900 power heads and 1 seio not sure what size but it is not the smallest, the sand is not blowing around at all. I did experience two days of milkshake tank because I added the sand directly without washing and my tank was milky. I drained the water from the tank refilled and siphoned the top layer of sand with a gravel cleaner to remove the silt and an hour later all was fine.

I have one piece of live rock in the center of the tank and my return pump is running full open pumping approx 840 gallons of water an hour.

I agree. Jen bought it for her Nano. It blew around a bit at first but it settled in. Just reduce the flow for a few days.

Sand ships USPS priority mail so it shouls be 3 business days, but the postal service is not always 100% on this I've seen them get out to 5 especially around the holidays.
