One of my bio professors at UMASS got me into taking close up shots of insects. It's a big change in biology from killing the bugs and mounting them on a pin in a box.
Today I shot a few types of damselflies I found in my back yard.

Green damsel with a common fly. Funny shot. Two orders of insects: Odonata and Diptera.
Last for tonight.

Heh. Just a bit. My professor would challenge me to figure out which genus and species these were, and make me catalog the date, time and location of the pictures. I'm too lazy for that. :p

Moe,
Using a Nikon Coolpix 775, right?
Pics look great.
Nice pics Moe. Actually I think those are all shots of Damselflies. Very similar to Dragonflies but the wings are folded parallel along the body at rest while the dragonfly's are out flat perpendicular to its sides. (I think lol) Great shots anyway. :-)
Since this is a "nature-ish" thread, I have tried a few creature shots with the new digital camera too. A spotted salamander heading to a vernal pool to spawn, and a lost but calm baby Mourning Dove in my yard.

I used to have tons of dragonflies at my last house w/all the flowers I had planted. The wife used to refer to the front "lawn" as the jungle. Looking to recreate the same thing in Rockland.
I haven't tried very manyu close up pics, maybe w/new camera

Great pics Moe. I'll have to get some of mine digitized. Love the damsels and dragonflies. Spiders are good candidates if you are into the macros. Right now I am
working on the different ant species in my yard.

Moe, very cool pics, oh and you too Gumhead... Hey I saw you today Dave, I think we passed you on the way from all things fishy to my house. After we went by I told Stangs that I saw you.
Moe who was the professor at UMass, They do some studdies here on our farm, the guy who ran it, Ron Procapi (spelled wrong I think), just passed away a few weeks ago, he did a lot for fruit growers and was an amazing teacher.
Here is a pic I took the other day, this is a bug on an iris.

Yeah I'll get em'. I think I've got some of some leaf cutters from when my wife and I
went to Costa Rica. The social insects really amaze me.

My bug from last week.
Here is a shot of one of the unusual wasp species that have been visiting my patch of Gooseneck Loosetrife since it has been in bloom. I find that many types of wasp just love it as well as Spearmint flowers. (Both white flowers) This particular wasp species is solid black, but a beautiful iridescent blue in the sunlight.
