Iodine / Iodide / iodates off the charts

It is very challenging to use ICP-OES machine to test iodide let alone in a complex matrix of seawater. Normally, to get a meaningful result, a much sensitive ICP-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) following alkaline extraction is used.
I do understand and agree with that sentiment. I do not blindly rely on ICP. I understand the ICP for our hobby is crude and not without many flaws.
With that said the ICP is picking up consistently (maybe a false trigger) an extremely high reading. Something is triggering that reading. This is not a one-off result. It has come back with this for over a year now. At least 6 ICP tests and using Triton and ATI.
