Protein skimmer questions

Is it possible to have to big of a skimmer? If so how big should I go? Setting up a 40b. Going to make my own sump/refugium. Haven’t decided on a 20gl or 29gl yet.

Think you want something rated for twice as much volume.

Depends on your fish load too. If you are stocking lightly a coralife65 will do the job. Heavy stocking and feeding you will want a stronger one. I have a 72 gallon tank and about 10 gallons of water in my 20 sump.

I actually turned my skimmer off because the pump got noisy! Have been running skimmerless for the last 2 months. Which reminds me I should test my tank parameters other than just alk/calcium soon!
