got it at the frag show so about a month old now. It opens up when the lights are on

Looks like polyp bail out, does it look normal and open up during the day?

Any chance you fed it and then a bristleworm or crab tore it up trying to get the food? (It's happened to me)

If it is just a physical injury, it will probably recover, but if it is due to the tank being new or water parameters being off, I recommend to try to give it away and try again after the tank conditions improve.
