Well, This tank is done...Will start planning my saltwater tank, Hmmm.

Okay the tank is I wouldn't go as far as saying crystal clear but there's still a tinge of green in every color temperature so I'm still not disappointed that I spent the $34 on the UV sterilizer it's 9 volts and I know replacing the bulb cost $29 in the whole unit cost 34 but I put some thought into retrofitted in into the 4 by 2 foot print that I have to work with and granted I'll be on the step I should be able to do it I have to put some thought into it and I'll drive and I'll show you the plans that I carefully drawn so you know feel free to do it if you have a 29 gallon Coral leaf Coralife scuse me tank as well the budgets going to increase by about three or four dollars so if you've been keeping track that'll be about $3 3 + $34 A&D Juvia sterilizers have been known to live anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months I think it's funny that the replacement bulb is $29 or they holding unit is 34 so whatever

Could you please provide an outline of your current tank conditions?

Size?
Date started
filtration?
Light and Hr's on?
Flow?

Don't worry about tank parameters. Clearly you should continue water changes during your cycle. Everything your experiencing is normal and IF you setup the tank 'in control', cycled and mature; it can run by its self. I currently have three awesome planted tanks that i do basically no maintenance on besides top offs and feeding fish. no WC.

To clear water up I ended up putting in some bamboo shoots in my filter of my freshwater tanks. The water cleared up. Algae production still continues because of neglect and nutrients but the cloudiness of the water cleared. Just a suggestion.

Amazon sent me an email or text or why the hell you want to call it evidently it's not going to show up so I don't know if that's like a sign from God or Buddha or ever the hell you believe in but I was so excited about retrofitting it in there but maybe I saved myself 30 bucks off the budget who knows but anyway I bought some plants don't know what plants what kind of plants are there beginner plants are there for plants but the guy was dealing with from give me a minute I got to go find the card okay where was that yeah she's stores Pet Supplies Plus it's right up the street from my house it's kind of like the new PJ's Pets you know what I mean because I guess like I'm starting to figure out like exotic I know it's called what do they call it high-tech freshwater I call exotic freshwater but whatever whatever you want to call it is happy with me but yes high-tech or exotic freshwater is the new saltwater Because unless you're Ben Affleck or Tom Brady or Donald Trump or Donald Trump satanic attorney you can't do saltwater or enjoy it at least and if you're on this site you know what I'm talking about like I said I 25 years experience so with aquariums or bio cubes or whatever the hell you want to call it you know what I mean and you know what I mean if you're on this site so I'm really having fun with this tank you know so I'm by the way I'm pretty sure this tank was heavier before it was wet I mean this thing this thing is built like a Sherman tank cuz I think it was pretty much made for saltwater I am so impressed with Coralife and coral life's like craftsmanship this thing is nuts I'm pretty sure this thing can take a 9mm shot at like Point Blank Range I mean seriously this is going to be like a combination of acrylic licks Lex and lucite God knows what else you know I was actually when I was doing the water change I was standing on a milk crate cuz I'm like six one like 265 and I'm like worried that I'm going to break the tank I'm like I'll break every bone in my body for this before this thing cracks but anyway I decided to make a plant's today and the owner who was really nice really sweet I got to know him really well he says listen tell your friend I told him I belong to you know you are very well here and I said if it still raining I'm impressed cuz I would have gave up on this lunatic a long time ago that would be me the bloom is gone clearly no pun intended right now my tank is just filled with nutrients with that's why I suck plants in there it's clearing up like like as we speak so like I said but the problem is I live in a 400 square foot apartment and that's flashing lights everywhere and it's directly in front of my door to the balcony which often like to sit and just stare at the Boston skyline so you know what I mean I mean if you know what I mean you know what I mean you know let's just put it that way so you know hopefully I can get to the point where I have so much living bio level crap in my tank that I don't have to worry about algae blooms going forward like I said this is my first freshwater live whatever the hell you call a tank so I'm sort of playing it by ear you know what I mean every swing I take is the first we had tank

By the way I don't care if I can hit like the billion billion trillion billion zillion billion billion billion like Angelina Jolie's like inheritance and like the era still like the Walmart Fortune jackpot I will never go back to saltwater

I'm having so much fun with this tank it's coming along so nicely following everyone's instructions doing my water changes because it getting this is my first experience with I know it's called high tech freshwater but I can I don't for some reason I keep calling you cuz I like freshwater but whatever and it's it's got some plants in there and I developed a sort of you know a business relationship with the Pet Supplies Plus owner of the street from my house he's been giving me a break on some plants and we've been laughing you know and stuff and we we get along apparently the storm Braintree as well the bloom is gone from you don't green to White at this point so I'm definitely gonna get the sterilizer I mean it's worth a shot it's going to be small enough and compact enough and like I said I'm so impressed with this company called Sun Sun that makes the pump that moves the water that it's worth the risk and I'll be able to hide it or I'm going to stick with the powerhead for the return pump but I'll find somewhere to hide it and then like I said maybe in a month I'll actually put something in that moves you know budget has increased by about maybe 10 or 15 bucks

Nice to hear your enjoying the tank. Go ahead and try the uv. I've usually only used them temporarily until issue is resolved.

I hear you about the labels, enjoy your 'aquarium'. You technically are in the low tech space by looking at your photos. This would be high tech

wow this has more equipment the my reef tanks

wow this has more equipment the my reef tanks

Similar amount to an automated reef tank; pH controlled Co2 addition, dosing pumps for macros and micros

I was actually able to use mostly everything when I converted that tank to my current reef display

Will give an update soon, water changes as instructed but I'm consindering some different options for bio media? Hph off the charts! Giant "Middle-Earth (like)" drift-wood may have somthing to do with that? :) Steve.

Hph?

You are likely experiencing high Nitrate and Phosphates, and algae problems. The drift wood likely has no impact on your water chemistry.

What are you currently using for biomedia? In fresh water, I haven't found a noticeable difference between types of ceramic bio media. This is my recommended media. Depending on the space and design of your filtration, you may also benefit from using a sponge.

One word of caution; don't remove too much (half) of the old media which is hosting all that good bacteria currently. Either way, in the short term you may experience another mini-cycle when changing media.

Some old timers here may laugh when I say two of my tanks have undergravel filters. They actually are a great filtration method. Although, I must admit that I recently had one scape with running for the last five years with undergravel filtration. Well, after that much time the substrate eventually breaks down and blocks the filtration. So far it is running fine after shutting down the filter. At worst, I need to rescape :)

From bottom to top> I packed the middle chamber with Fluval Bio, Then an after-market Coralife filter (carbon/mech filter) then pinning down the filter from "floating" I am using the an old REAL stock Coralife Bio-cube cabon/mech filter ripped appart (kinda made a "strainer or a grill" for intial rough filtration) it a to pin the formention floating filter down, If that makes any sense? :) I'll post pics, Steve.

Here are some recent pics...Budget hs not changed since last posted.

The pictures make the tank a little cloudy than it actually is although I do run my light probably 10 to 12 hours a day I wish I got one a little bit more powerful because my tank isn't very bright probably because I'm having it sit in between the large piece of driftwood I planted a whole bunch of bulbs on the Driftwood I know they'll take substantially longer than if I planted them in the substrate but I look forward to the plants growing out of the Driftwood I replace the substrate with new bio media charcoal media and ammonia reducing media and I put them in nets for obvious reasons just so I can get them in and out easier I gets the pre-made Coralife filters for some pads of ammonia reducing polishing and carbon pads and just cut my own they were far more effective

Tank is looking good. Time to add more plant. For your setup and light, I might suggest adding some mosses (tied or superglue to wood), anubias, or buces

I would also recommend to buy online from our local Han Tran. Awesome selection and one of the best online plant sellers in the US hands down.
