    Default FW-Electric Blue Crayfish For Sale

    Posted for a friend... though, I've got two of the cute lil' buggers in my FW tank now.. they are quite comical to watch..

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Electric blue crayfish (Procambarus alleni) for sale! Freshwater inverts,
    prefer harder water or water supplemented with calcium (pH between 7.0-8.0
    is best). They are best kept between 50-75 F., so a heater is not required,
    but a filter or sponge filter is.
    These crayfish will reach a maximum size of about 5-6" and live for about 3
    years with proper care. I keep mine singly in 5 gallon tanks, as they are
    pretty territorial as they grow up. They like hiding places during bright
    sunlit hours - I use coconut shells and rock shelves for mine.
    These guys will eat all types of food ranging from flake food to pellets to
    lettuce. Keep it more on the vegetarian side w/cleaned egg shells for
    calcium now and then. They can snag baby or slower/sick fish at night, but
    are not great hunters. Some of these crayfish will eat your tastier plants,
    and some just don't seem to bug the plants.
    They are very fun to watch! These crayfish will grow very fast. Each molt
    produces a stronger, deeper blue color, and they molt ~every 6-8 weeks for
    me. As youngsters, they molt more often.
    These striking creatures are currently about 1" long. They are $5/each at
    this size. Shipping is extra, pickup is ideal (Sudbury, MA). Email me at
    ritter@speakeasy.net if interested.
    My little blue guy gets brighter with every molt. It lives peacefully in a mixed community tank of tetras, sword tails, and 3 albino cory cats. Amazing crayfish!
    I had one of these in a 2 1/2 gallon tank a while ago, great scavenger. I would just put a feeder goldfish or 2 in the tank and he would eat the leftover food or the fish when they die.
    Moved to non-reef related since it is a FW item.
    Nifty looking critters. Did he breed them himself?
    She did breed them... the momma had bunches o' berries that eventually hatched. They are now spread all over her house in tanks.
    Hey Dave, Don't they eat fishies while they sleep?
    Richard,
    This one has been in my tank for a week or two now and hasn't taken anything but rams head snails (thank god), flaked food, and algae wafers. Hasn't even touched a plant. Nor has it taken any of the many baby sword tails hiding in the crayfish den!
    Too funny. I don't want to add one in my daughter's tank and next day all the fishies are gone, all tetras. Too difficult to explain daddy killed all my fishes.
    What do you think?
    Dunno Richard. I suggest you do a little research. Google "Procambarus paeninsulanus".
    Most say that they are not "supposed" to be kept with bottom fish, but this one leaves my three cory cats alone..not even a nip. You should also keep them well fed or they may hunt, but again, no problems YET in my tank. Others say you shouldn't keep them with any fish period... I dunno.. again, I like my tank the way it is...
