Are trash cans clean and water tight?

most of us use a gray Brute trash can Brand new of course. they usuall run about $30 for the 32gal size.If you decide to buy a different kind make sure it's round and don't buy the ones with the wheels.

I use the Rubbermaid 30G trash can from Walmart.

This place is awesome. The tank shapes and sizes are incredible. Some of these have an 8" cap so you can drop a powerhead in. They are all plastic so you can run RO/DI water in a separate hole. They also come with bulkheads at the bottom.
