looking for people who use randys 2 part solution

calcium is becoming a pain

til I figure a way to put a reactor I am looking to see who uses the homemade 2 parts and there feelings on it

I have been using 2 fishies 2 part gets costly

I used Randy's 2 part for about 1.5 years in the 120, until I added a reactor. I still use it in the 12 gal. Was dosing 120 ml of each part per day to keep alk at 9 and calcium at 400.

i use 2part on a 65gal but for a tank your size you should probably get a reactor

I use two parts on my 125 gallon mix reef. It consumes 1 cup of each per day.

Dowflake, baby!
Dissolve that stuff and up your calcium. Cheap as heck, and effective.

reactor

I plan on putting in a reactor in but I need to figure out wwhere all my equipment is under and next to tank not sure how I can put a reactor in yet. Looking for the temporary sloution

I know you guys use it but I just can't seem to get over the fact of putting icement in my tank....LOL :) I still use seachem products in my 90 mixed reef..

Seachem products are the same thing only expensive. Before hooking up my reactor I used Magflake and baking soda for years. Works fine.

Last I checked the Home Depot in Tewksbury didn't have any Dowflake in. Anyone know where I can get some and how much is a bag?

I don't know about you, but I just can't seem to get over the fact of paying 20x the amount for a jar of icemelt re-badged with a SeaChem label ;)

Now THAT's funny.

I was a devoted B-ionic user until the bill for it got to about 30 bucks a week.....MagFlake, DowFlake and Arm&Hammer from BJ's Wholesale work just fine for me now.

SO I am paying for this crap for nothing? There is no know benefit to using a product specifically designed for the reef aquarium? Is that right? No extra elements??? Aparently I am missing the boat here... My calcium usage is getting expensive but hey we all got into this hobby knowing how expensive it is.... If I hear that using an additive that was DESIGNED for the aquarium has a benefit over icemelt than I am willing to pay all the $$$. It seems to be the majority vote on here that its the same stuff but I believe that you would still be missing some elements of some kind.... Maybe I am more tolerant of this because I don't have a 400 gallon system thats costing me 150.00 a month in additives.

I've been using SeaChem and I know there is a balance of magnesium in it as well. So this is the other element added compared to just Dowflake.

According to the MSDS for SeChem "Reef Complete" it is:

Proprietary aqueous solution of calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and strontium chloride, and colorant.

Calcium Chloride = Dow Flake (Ice Melt)
Magnesium Chloride = Mag Flake
Strontium Chloride (There are no real benifits to this IMO and most people neither test for or add strontium except for the small amounts already in their salt mix)
