54 corner setup plan

I bought a slightly used 54g corner tank recently. The plan is to take my 56g column style 30 x 18 x 24, and switch it into the 54 with stand. I bought the 56 spontaneously at Petsmart and have been trying to rebound from no planning. My biggest regret is it wasn't drilled. I tried the overflow/ sump thing and it is right next to the couch and you could hear everything going on. So I want to plan this one out better... I am hoping to either drill it or learn how at tomorrows meeting. Any suggestions on where and what type of holes for the best overflow for corner tank? I will keep this going as I plan this out, but first thing first
 
I also need suggestions for the sump... Very strange space it is a triangle shape with bow front to it under there. The two back flats are about 23" each. And the two front corners are about 30" across from each other. I was thinking I might need to run a few seperate containers to maximize the space?
 
for the holes thats easy...keep it in the back if its a corner tank and just get black acrylic and you wont even know its there!
 
Okay, now may I ask... What other equipment should I be planning for.
Lights:
I have the lights to be a DIY 150w Mh, and 84 watts of Led combined into one fixture. I have all the parts already.
Skimmer:
I have a HOB AquaC remora on the 56 now. I also own an old Euro Reef model, not sure but it might need a new pump. Current one works but runs warm and I had a hard time dialing it in. I also have a Reef Octopus HOB 1000 w/o a pump. I was thinking of putting both HOB on the sump. Anyone do this? Or should I just get new one? I have till Monday to get my group discount at BRS... Suggestions would be appreciated here!
Heaters:
I have 2 150watt heaters on the 56g now. Was going to move them over.
Power heads:
I have 2 korilla 1 in the 56 now... And I just bought a used Tunze 6025. I should have plenty of movement and options here.
Media:
I currently run a Fluval 405 to have some chemi pure hit my water. I was thinking of dropping it and buying a media reactor from BRS. What are your thoughts here?
I also am picking up a UV light and putting that inline. What else should I be considering for major equipment that will be needed.
I am looking for a quiet low maintenance setup as possible...

I was thinking 2 one inch as low as possible in each back wall bottom corner. And maybe 1 - 3/4 inch up high to use as hard plumbed return?

I've never heard of a "euros" drain??

The usual opitons are as follows;

Duroso / stockman (vented drain aka open channel)-
These require one hole, and can flow up to around 600gph max through a 1" bulkhead.
These will mix air and water and will never be silent or bubble free going into the sump.
This is what pretty much all stock off the shelf RR tanks will be set up with unless you start modding things.

Herbie (restricted siphon with dry emergency)-
Requires 2 holes and will flow well over 1000gph easy using 1" bulkheads.
This is a pure siphon so there is no noise and no bubbles into the sump if set up correctly.
The flow rate is determined by a gate valve restricting the siphon drain. This setting needs to be just right or it will either back up and hit the dry emergency drain, or start flushing.
Herbie drains do need occasional slight adjustments.
If the siphon drain backs up the dry emergency is capable of handling all the flow and more.

Bean drains (restricted siphon, dry emergency, AND open channel)-
Require 3 holes, and flow capabilities are essentially the same as a herbie.
This set up is a herbie and an open channel. The addition of the open channel pretty much eliminates the occasional adjusting needed on a herbie. The open channel also creates a second back up in case the siphon AND dry emergency back up somehow.

*note, reccent hands on exp shows that herbie and bean drains involving runs of plumbing near horizontal can be tricky to get dialed in and consistently restart without tuning issues.

Also note, when drilling holes it's usually reccomended that holes be spaced at least 1-1.5x the diamater of the hole- from any other hole, and from any edge of a glass pane. Holes drilled close together tend to like to play connect the dots (ie crack)
 
Also, you'll want to build an overflow box of some sort to run any of the above drain systems. Ideal is probaby a small, wide internal box / weir and a larger external box to house the drains.

Just building an internal box is simpler but takes up more space in the tank.

You can use glass or acrylic for an internal box, but an external box will need to be made of glass (assumng it's a glass tank). Reason being that acrylic doesn't form a really strong bond with silicone, and you need to use silicone to attach any overflow to a glass tank.
 
The euro was meant to say durso but my lovely auto spelling thingy decided otherwise. I think I would like to have a piece of black acrylic in the corner to act as the overflow box. The type is reliable and quiet for draining priorities. It sounds like a herbie fits that wish list. Where do most run their return on herbie drains? I really don't want it coming over the tank edge. Should I drill a return line up high behind the internal box. And where can I get the piece of acrylic with teeth in it that gets glued in the corner? I imagine they must sell them?
