That brings to my explanation for high alkalinity vs coral health:
High alkalinity does not cause coral death, as long as it is in range from 7 to 14.
Due to delayed effect, when sps or lps coral health are in decline, they take up less and less calcium and alkalinity. Many people who keep significant amount of sps snd lps have some types of dosing methods that continue to add calcium and alkalinity to the tank. With less consumption, alkalinity seems to go up and the coral health goes down.
