I'm going to order:

AquaC Nano Remora Protein Skimmer with Maxi-Jet 900 Pump

AquaC Remora Pre-skimmer For Maxi-Jet 1200

Two Little Fishies Hydrocarbon 2 Granulated Activated Carbon 1 L

Right now, I'm running a HOB filter hooked up to a Tom Aquatics Aquarium Surface Skimmer which is keeping the surface of the water pristine. I'm worried about the organics getting past the fliter(4 stages of filter) and re-circulating(this is my 3rd filter combo).

The pre-skimmer will take up a lot of room in the nano....but I'm thinking that it's worth it. I'm seeing three sides of the tank unobstructed but the health of the tank takes priority....which hasn't been a problem, yet, I don't want it to be in the future.

So, the pre-skimmer is going to obstruct 1/3 of the veiwing from the back of the tank.

The pre-skimmer(8.5" x 2.5" x 7.25"), while consuming precious tank area, can harbor a sponge to catch the micro bubbles, a bag of carbon and a bag phosban.

to be honest i couldn't stand the remora...who recommended it to you? granted its only going on a 12 gallon....i hated the prefilter box, u'll want a sump fast to hang the skimmer...

IMo/E the skimmer boxes are worthless on the AquaCs the teeth are too large and the hole to protect the pump from running dry render it useless for surface skimming. Also the box hangs off the pump not a great feature, very hard to get the thing to sit level.

If you buy a remora use a surface skimmer like the one hagen makes, they attach to your pump and are self adjusting to the water height. run about 10 bucks .

They are a decent skimmer as far as HOB's go but leave a bit to be desired.

IME I find that if you can get good surface skimming they will work as good as any other HOB skimmer.

As with any skimmer placement of the intake pump to get raw tank water is a very important aspect of setting up any skimmer.
