All plastic ball valves have grease

Hey Guys,

I got some all plastic ball valves for the new system I am putting together. However to my dismay when i inspected them i found that they had greased the valve area. The grease is clear and i would say medium viscosity.

Has anyone encountered this before. I assume it is not safe to install as is. could I reliably clean the grease out enough to know that it would not cause problems (a nice bristle brush and some watered down bleach?)

Thanks,

Brian

I wouldnt worry about it. Unless you have a different type than what everyone else is using. Alot of tanks have been put together with ballvalves from Lowes/HD with no ill effects. If you feel better about it give them a vinegar bath and rinse well.

I'm guessing that what you're seeing isn't grease but rather a food grade silicone lubricant. I would leave it be.

I've never had a problem with a pvc valve or heard of anyone else having a problem. I wouldn't sweat it.
