Any harm in downgrading lighting for a few days?

I'm going away for a few days, and instead of making my family worry about the tank overheating and a bunch of topoff which I haven't automated yet, I'm thinking of running a 64W PC light over my Solana for a few days instead of the 150W MH.

My longer term plan is to get ATO going and a controller to turn off lights if it gets too hot, but I'm not there yet.

Is there any harm in switching up lighting for a few days? I realize that it's ok to even go completely dark for a few days even, but I'd think this would be less of a shock to the system.

FWIW, it's mostly softies and LPS with one small SPS.

I don't think it would be any issue, I've gone lights out for several days w/ an SPS heavy tank with no ill affects.

I think you'd be fine. I ran my SPS dominated tank with no lights for 4 days to help clean up a cyno out break with no ill effects.

Great, thanks guys.

You're giving me courage to just leave the lights off while I'm gone!

I just came home from a 3 day weekend away from the tank..no lights on any of them. One is SPS dominated, the other softies, everyone was happy and healthy and the little HA I had starting to grow was gone :)

Longest I've left mine off was 5 days IIRC after the ballasts crapped out and I was trying to get new ones/fix them and everything worked out fine... I've also done many times with 3 days no lights...

Cloudy days are only natural i would think.

Def... Not always sunny on the reef :.
