I bought a Marineland Visi-therm
(lfs recomended because stealth dont last). 10 months and its dead. ARGH.
I had a stealth in my FW tank over 4 years and yes it died.
but the light didnt come on so i figured it out. the marineland the light stayed on but not heating so...
I lost a couple things not looking at temp thinking..... heater is working. (my bad)
so.... I never see anyone talk about them on here. I had good luck but dont know if SW affects it differently

I am in no way saying to use them due to recalls amd bad press about them, but I have on I used for 5 years and still use to heat make up water. Obviously, there is no danger with the make up water, just showing that it still works.

I think there were recalls for them last year, like they shattered during use or something. I use a aqueon heater and have had it last for years, it is controlled by my reefkeeper lite

They leak current into the water, very bad stuff. Before the recall, I ended up toss ~5 of them in 3 years due to they fail.

The recall are for those plastic heaters, no glass.

For what it's worth, I never had great success with these heaters over the years. They would either leak current, as noted above, and/or simply stop working.

Then again, I never had great success with glass heaters either over the long haul.

Had one of the recall ones blow up and I know other members that have lost tanks because of them. I use one for my water change water but I would never put one in my display or sump.
