Any members build cheap Sump/Fuge's?

Hi,

I will be slowly(aka broke), building a reef tank. It's going to be a small almost nano tank. 27 x 15 x 18 < strange size huh. Anyways still in the planning stages, but I do want a sump with Skimmer/Refugium/Return.

Any members on here build 1/4" Acrylic sumps?

I am located on the northshore MA so the closer the better.

I was hoping for someone alittle closer(ga$), but it's not too far.
Just so you know when I said I was broke I wasn't kidding. lol

Anyhoo, do you have any pictures of sumps or anything you have done. Sorry new here and have no idea of anyones workmanship. Can anyone else who has had a sump made vouch for NeO?

I haven't come up with a setup yet but can draw everything out for you. All I know right now is that I want 3 chambers for skimmer, fuge, and return. It can only be 24" long so it may be wider than a normal sump to fit everything. I need to figure out what skimmer I am going to go with first before I can give you a drawing with measurements.

I can vouch for him he made my sump (~30gals)for my 120gal and a refugium for my tank at work. He makes it look so simple.

a truly cheap refugium would be an aquaclear 500 filter filled with cheato.

I only took pic from the sump that I made for my self, and I know Dave has pic from the sump that I made for his 75g. I will see if I can find the thread and post a link here.

But for know this is my sump, holds about 40g of water and can hold another 20g if the pump stops.

You know what... I built my 4 gallon sump myself AFTER being taught by Gustavo.

I know you are a "Jr. Member" and you can ask ANYONE in BRS...officer or otherwise, and they will say that I'm a member in good standing and NEVER cause any commotion within the group, but, with that said, I'm bothered by your second post on this thread.

Rather than asking someone to "vouch" for another BRS member, maybe you should have looked around the site, attended a meeting or perhaps PM'd others rather than questioning his workmanship here. I don't mean this as a slam, but the post seemed a bit out of line. Gustavo is not only a master craftsman when it comes to aquaria, but you HAVE to see what he's done with his new home.

Again, you and I may meet up and become best of friends, but I was bothered by that post.

You CAN'T go wrong with getting advice or assistance from MOST of our members. Gustavo is just one of many who can help ANYONE with various projects. He's not only good with construction, but is one of the better people that you'll meet on this 3rd rock from the sun.

Best of luck with your project. You'll not get any of his time until he finishes helping me with my seahorse tank plumbing and hood construction , but once you meet this guy, you'll have him on speed dial.

Well said Dave....I was going to post something yesterday but decided not to. If your really looking for cheap, you can just use a 10 or 20 gal tank and make partitians. If you want a beautiful piece of craftsmanship...see Gustavo. I don't think acrylic is cheap tho...but he builds to specs....not a slam either.

here is a link of a sump/fuge i made out of an 10g tank and scrap pieces of acrylic. with a little attention it went to gether easy. hope this might help ya, it's a great DIY project since you seem to want to take your time...might as well do it yourself. it's great to brag about...lol

If cheap is what you're after, I'd definitely look for a used glass tank that's the right size, and add baffles or whatever. Acrylic is not at all cheap. You'll probably pay $100 just for the materials. (is that about right Gustavo, Dave?)

it all depends on the size of the sump you want and how many compartments you need.
Again I would agreed with all the posts above that Gustavo does top notch workmanship.

The sump for the 75g cost me 100 bucks in acrylic. But, I had it custom cut etc. from J. Freeman. Now, knowing what I do, I'd find the acrylic cheaper (possibly Home Depot) and make the cuts myself. Gustavo has a perfect blade on his table saw that cuts the acrylic like butter. Shop around, you can find cheap acrylic.
