Anyone ever use a water cooler as a chiller?

Hey all,

A frind is getting a free water cooler from his work. Is there a way to use that as a chiller? Can he gut the components and use a pump to keep the water cool?

Thoughts, ideas?

What is the hp of the compressor? I'd imagine it's too small to serve as a chiller since they only cool a small amount of water at a time.

if you google it ... i know there was someone using the condenser or some part and a bucket to cool

He's going to use it on his bait tank. If that helps any.

Being an HVAC/R technician in my other life, I would be real careful of putting saltwater through a system not built specifically for it, as many chilled water systems use copper tubing which can leach, or aluminum which would quickly corrode and fall apart.

It's for an indoor bait tank. Us ice fishermen are a little on the crazy side.
