Anyone have luck with Wood Polyps?

I'm trying to figure out the type of flow and level of light they like (placement in tank). Thanks in advance.

Wood Polyps...never heard of it. Can you provide more info or links if you can?

Are they Clavularia?

Are they Anthelia?

There are a couple of other options too.

clove poloyps grow out of wood like stalks and form runner to next poloyp instead of mats sorry but I have had no luck with them people seem to keep them easy in all sorts of light and flow

Wood Polyps or woods polyps commonly spring up from live rock (look like a large zoa) mostly brown but with actinics they can have a very bright green center.
I wish I had a pic or a formal name....but NOT.

Sounds like the "Sand Polyps" I got from Tropic Isle, at least that is what he called them. The description matches to a tee. Sorry for dirty glass, and I didn't have much luck with these, although my tank was probably too young. The centers are green under actinics.

wood polyps are anthelia or a similar type.
can do well in lower light. moderate flow.
i have some if you want a frag.

I'll have to get a pic tomorrow. They light on the tank just went out, so below is a first photo trial. Never posted a pic before.

Looks like the acro pics worked..tomorrow I'll start a new post with pics that need some names. Would have tried this earlier, but the email notification was not checked. Thanks.

I traded a local hobbist for what he called "woods polyps" a while ago. I think they are "anthelia glauca" as shown in The Reef Aquarium vol 2 by sprung and Delbeek.

Mine do well in strong light and medium flow. I reccently gave a frag to a friend and she said it is doing quite well in her tank with lower lighting and current.

Mine seems to be alright so far. I've had it since Tuesday and placed it in the middle of the tank and 176 watts of light.

I've got an ocean size colony of the stuff in my tank, if you'd like some, come get it! Seriously, the stuff is the bane of my tank.

I'm not sure if anything could kill this stuff.

In my tank it seems to prefer the edges of my tank so I'd say low-moderate lighting with low-moderate flow. I've got 400W MH bulbs over my tank. The tank is 30" deep though and this stuff seems to stick to the fringes of my reflector coverage area at the bottom of the tank. The current is always moving it, but it is more of a gentle rolling than anything else.

My tank is far, far, far from great. Quite the opposite actually, I'm struggling with hair algae problems. That problem doesn't seem to stop the Anthelia or Xenia from mass producing though...it is ridiculous. One of these days I'll get off my behind and get an adequately sized clean-up crew, do some massive water changes, get my Alk up to 12 or 13 and connect a refugium large enough to help ward off the pest algae. Yeah, right!

Good luck with your animals!
