I have a melanurus wrasse and am afraid if I get a cleaner shrimp he might kill it. Just wondering if anyone have any success keeping any kind of shrimps with wrasses?

hows ur tank bro? and how u been?

Tank is doing good now. Things are starting to get back to normal. However I'm thinking about getting rid of my wrasse tho. I think he's killing all my clean up crews.

i have kept wrasses and shrimps together with no issues in the past... but thats jus one example of my own...

if you think yours is the cuprit, then maybe its time for him to go... GL bud

I'm thinking I'm going to have to. I've been thinking about getting rid of him but he has such nice color that I hate to get rid of him. However my tank isn't what it used to be ever since I got him. My CUC and pods are all disappearing and I'm thinking it's because of him.

I've had shrimp and a cleaner wrasse together from day one never had issues I did notice that everytime I get a cleaner shrimp and fireshrimp together one ends uo missing I found out that my carpet was eatin them so sad they get to close to it and it over it doesn't help that my boxer CB keeps being a bully I thinking of getting him out sometime soon before he forces my fireshrimp into the carpet.

I have a cleaner shrimp with a melanorous, mystery, hoevens, vloriks, grey nose, yellow, and a marble wrasse. They have been fine for the last year although small peppermints and snails dont make it very long.

Regrettably they still havent killed my pistol shrimp. But they do try every day before lights out....its like vultures

BB tanks owners get away with a bowl of sand for the wrasses to sleep in. I havent tried it but a lot of people claim to have success doing it.

How is your pods / amphipods population?

i have 2 fuges feeding it so its hard to tell but they are very active hunters and take down bristleworms and pods whenever they can. They actuall swim around my hand whenever i move frags or things around so they can grab things i uncover. I do keep enough that the attached tank supports a madarin and some pipefish.

My melanarus never bother my cleaner shrimp (2yrs). I got a leopard wrasse, and both of them were gone overnight.

I know it's off the topic but I always wanted a pipefish what kind do you have and what kind of success have you had keeping one ? is there anything that you had to change in your system to suit it's needs besides the added refugium and the need for more pods to feed the mandarin your wrasse?

I keep 1 banded pipefish and 6 dragonface pipefish. The banded swims and hunts mostly at night but will eat frozen mysis. he doesnt seem to mind the high flow areas and is fine with the 2 angels that share the tank with him. they are very sensetive to temp changes.

The dragonface are my favorite they dont get to big and prefer to slither across the ground then to swim. They like to keep in packs and will sneak through zoas and stuff while keeping their heads sticking out to see whats going on. They have very small mouths and rarely eat even the smallest frozen mysis. They will eat the ova prawn eggs but they seem to focus on copepods.
I run a 3 tank system with 2 fuges attached. i did let my tank establish itself and seeded both fuges with copepods before adding them. I still find copepods under frags and stuff all the time so seems the population is stable.
They dont seem to like the flow but dont swim often anyways so it doesnt seem to effect them. Other fish dont seem to pick on them but i woulndt put them in a large tank with to much rock as you wouldnt see them much. Very cool fish IMO best in a non aggressive tank

Sorry for a long reply on an off topic issue.
