ASM Skimmer help!

Anyone near the brookline/boston area that has some free time and experience with setting up ASM skimmers. I think mines not working properly and honestly I have no experience with Skimmer troubleshooting. My collection cup never fills up unless I overflow it and the skim inside the wall isn't that good*(dry skim)

I have an ASM G3 on a 58 gallon tank.

I would feel alot more confortable if someone came and took a look, I bet theres something fishy going on but i'm too blind to see it!

tank has been setup for 4-5 months now.

I have a G-2 with the recirc and gate valve mods.
How much water are you sending through the unit?

Something is deff. wrong. i am running a G2 on a fairly heavy stocked 120 and i have to empty the cup 2 times a week. Have you tried to adjust the riser tube?

imo a g3 on a 58g is just way too much of a skimmer to get anything i had a
g1x on a 75g and was getting some good stuff is it new it might just have to break in for the first couple of days

I have a g3 on a 120 and a g4x on a 210 they work like crazy

How much water is it sitting in? I run mine in just enough depth to cover the intake from the pump into the body. Most of the time, people have trouble because they are in too deep water.

No that skimmer is not that overrated to not be pulling skimmate out.Its only putting in so much scfh of air and processing so much water imo those skimmers are over rated, I've set up enough of them to know! With the mods on the other hand you can step them up a bit. First off, is the skimmer new? Second how deep of water is the skimmer sitting in?

20 high about 9 1/2'' to 11 '' it sits in (thats how high the middle baffle is and it always passes the first baffle which is about 9''.

asm g-3

I'll tell you what,if you want a g-3 to work like it should,you should make it recirculating($5 uniseal) and mesh mod it.
Also drill out the volute air nipple.
go to reefcentral and do a search for "asm skimmer club"
I bought one brand new and was hating it till I did those mods.
that skimmer is way underpowered new.
the neck isn't sized right for that pump.
you need to run the top of the bubbles real high in the neck in stock form.
A standard g-3 is not too much for a 58 if you have a decent bioload.

by the way 8" is a good water level for that skimmer.

Shark I may have pics of the last recirc. mod I have done, I'll have to check. The last recirc mod I had done I actually needed to buy a new 90 degree elbo for the outlet along with a slightly longer piece of pvc for it. With all the mods done it will def. works much better. When doing a mesh mod it is recommend to use a killawatt in the process to make sure the pump isnt pulling too much electricity, as it shouldn't. I use a killawatt as well as an air meter. FWIW the mods are very simple to do so don't be affraid and also use silicone grease on the uniseals and wipe off the access lol.
