MASNA is going to help us sponsor Murray as a speaker, and one of our new forum sponsors, Lovely Pet, has decided to sponsor the meeting, and will be bringing some cool stuff in.

Quicky Speaker Bio....Murray Camp is a reef aquarist with over fifteen years of experience in keeping captive marine ecosystems, from 20 to 800 gallons. He is a member of the Dallas Marine Aquarium Society and Dallas/Ft. Worth Marine Aquarium Society, and currently runs four reef systems using different probiotic methodologies. He lives in Dallas, Texas with a Great Dane and two kids, and supports his reef keeping obsession by practicing trial law.

Special Thanks to our Sponsor, Lovely Pets in Quincy, right around the corner from the meeting!

See you there! :)

This should be a very good meeting and, as a ZeoVit enthusiast, this will be one I am going to try hard to get my anti-social butt to.

Murray Camp is a very active contributor to the ZeoVit forums and he keeps an ongoing thread there with his speaking schedule and includes a brief summary of his presentation, I will quote it below and link the thread here.

You want me to put what in my tank?
An overview of probiotic and carbon dosing methodologies.

Summary:

This presentation will provide an overview of the commercial and DIY probiotic and carbon dosing methodologies being used in reef aquaria today. The presentation will last approximately one hour and be accompanied by a power point that will contain multiple images of products discussed and reef tanks using this system. Topics covered include:

1. The science supporting ULN (ultra low nutrient) systems, including bacterial biomass enhancement and nutrient reduction, and bacterioplankton as a food source for corals;

2. A comparison of the commercial systems available (Prodibio, Zeovit, Ultralith, NeoZeo, NP Biopellets, etc.)

3. Current DIY methodologies, including vodka, vinegar, sucrose, glucose, ascorbic acid, and mixed carbon sources (VSV, VSV+Vit.C, VGV, etc.);

4. Husbandry considerations when using these systems (skimming, GFO, GAC, alkalinity and potassium balance, amino acid supplementation, etc.)

5. Potential risks and pitfalls of each system and probiotics as a whole.

Sheesh....where the heck were you when I was writing the meeting announcement, JT? :p

Finally a close one on a saturday!

If I can just get work off I'll be there!

from NH how far into mass is this meeting? i'd like to make it but not sure if i can...

Steve from Lovely Pets can't make it to the meeting, as he had something important already planned for that day, but I didn't want him to pass on sponsoring the meeting, so I volunteered to help as much as I can. You can expect to see a tank set up with some great deals on some corals, prob some nice stuff from Fish Heads. Also great deals on some other stuff, maybe Koralias(new and old style) and anyththing else that might be attractive. Also, possibly a nice one day coupon for the store, which is prob 1/2 mile from the meeting. I'm open to forwarding suggestions, as I know Steve wants to do some nice stuff that the members will appreciate.

A little birdie told me that there is going to be some cool frags and small colonies from Lovely Pet for sale, as well as some cool equipment....so get on down to the meeting on Saturday!

I will be working so I can't make it, but David will be there.

I would love to go but I will be at Ford Fest @ NED

I will be helping out with a table set up by Lovely Pets, with some great deals for the members.
Also, I will put out a bucket for donations to the Simmons family, whose young daughter, Rylee, is battling cancer.
Jon Simmons owns Boston Aqua Farms, I am trying to get in touch in time to purchase 100 bags of frag plugs/discs to sell at this table on my own, donating all the money to a fund for the family. Time is short on putting this together, so you will have to trust my honesty and intentions, I will post some kind of proof of the donation after it is made. I'm thinking that the plugs/discs will be a "gift" for a $10-$15 donation made to the bucket. Any help in contacting Jon would be appreciated, I know this is last minute.

I'll be attending this meeting and bringing some frags for the raffle. I would also like to bring some frags to put on Kevin's table with the proceeds going to the Simmons jar, so long as there are no objections.

As long as I can make room, that's fine, I'm pretty sure we can pull this together.
I just spoke with Jon Simmons, he actually plans to attend the meeting. I will be purchasing 80 bags or ceramic reef plugs, and 20 discs from him with my own money(he wanted to donate them, but I insisted on paying). Each bag will be "gift" for a "donation" of $10 or more. I will make the final donation hopefully within a few days after the meeting. I will keep the remaining plugs, if any, and decide what to do with them afterwards, but perhaps continue to offer them like this and do a future second donation. As far as frags go, I suppose I could take a few, but honestly, I don't personally want to take away from what Lovely Pets is Planning to offer there as promotions for the store. Steve is such a great guy, and has given me his personal blessing to do as I please for this cause as an individual, alongside of helping out the store, so please, show him some appreciation if you get the chance, and don't be surprised if you see Boston Aqua Farms products in his store soon................
Again, I want to stress, thiss is a personal endeavor, and in no way is it (directly)connected with Boston Reefers or Lovely Pets.

Valid point Kevin. I'll retract the offer. It would be unfair to conflict with a club sponsor. That was not my intention.

Are the proceeds from the raffle going to Jon? If that is the case, I'll be bringing a "few" frags for the raffle also.

The BRS is not holding a special raffle for donations to the Simmons family. If a member wants to step up and hold a raffle or individually would like to donate any funds made from frag sales at the meeting to Jon they are more than welcome to. Please understand that the BRS and the officers of the club will not be involved in organizing or collecting any funds. Thank you all in advance for understanding our limitations here.
