To my surprise, the tank is well... much more beautiful. What?!

3 weeks of full automation with no human contact and 50% less skimming made my coral color up.

I guess I shouldn't touch my tank that much often anymore.

Nothing fancy at all. The system is actually already set up that way. I'm just paranoid every time I go on vacation.

- 3 Dosers for 2 parts and supplement
- Auto top off
- Larger RODI resovior
- Autofeeder
- Apex controller

Same here. I keep telling people. Automate the tank and keep your hands out of the tank! I went out of town for 2weeks during Christmas and when I came back, I swore the colors was much better than before I left the house.

This. I went out for a week and didnt even pay someone to look at the tank. Vacations should be relaxing time, not worry time.

I need to get a nice ATO. Been researching forever just haven't pulled the trigger. May I ask what type of auto feeder, and what you fill it with? I have an Eheim and it's failed on me.

I have the petco auto feeder it has always worked for me. The digital one.

Im in canada all this week and can't wait to get back and see the tank and the new colors. Not sure if they are new or I just remember the tank a little duller in color but it always looks better when you have been away for a bit.

Best ATO in my opinion is Tunze Osmolator. It is quite expensive but worth every penny.

I use Ehiem auto feeder with luck, I never had any problem. It filled with both formulas pellets.

I I love the tunze the only downside is the little pumps only last 2-3year. Given my system is pretty complicated with the CO gas off setup I also implement a peristaltic pump which IMHO works as well as the Tunze top off. But I have implemented it so if everything failed and all the water from 1 day got dumped in my tank it would only be 4gal in my 300gal+ system. But the Tunze will shut off long before that it just won;t run that long. RO unit>CO gas off container>perstaltic pump >RO>tunze top off container> sump

I had the same experience. I spent a week in California on business and my wife was looking after our tank.

When I returned, the tank looked even more vibrant and happier than usual.

Maybe it's just the "home sweet home" effect after being gone for a week. Maybe the tank is better off without me finding maintenance or problems to solve and making changes

Just ordered the Tunze Osmolator. I got to get this done. I want to go on vaca this summer and not worry about my tank! Glad I saw this thread. Good stuff.

Scott Fellman often preaches more feedings and less skimming. I've done this in my frag tank and have definitely noticed better colors.
