Been thinking of throwing in the towel.

APISTOBORELLI

Bass in pic swam away
I've been dealing with a fairly bad back injury for the last few weeks and generally neglecting my tank. I noticed today that the lemon acro crapped out overnight, and cyano AND some kind of brown algae is coming back. It's going to be a while before I'll be able to effectively do a water change, or most maintenence in general.

That being said, I think I should bow out for a bit. I'm hoping someone here will buy all my livestock (contents of tank and sump/fuge) in one shot. No equipment would be for sale, I WILL come back to the hobby.

I'll be posting pics and a price tomorrow in the for sale forum.

So, you don't want the cap?? :D

Hey Mark, sorry to hear it if we don't talk you out of it before then but glad your keeping your tank for a comeback.

I imagine it must stink not being able to keep things looking good.
I was horsing around a couple of 5 gallon ro/di jugs tonight.Thought about how hard it would be even with just a simple injury like a sprain.I'm glad to hear that you are keeping your equipment and have plan to return.
Make sure you stick around the forums Marc.

Don't give up, I didn't when I suffered an injury from a fall and busted up my heel I kept my tanks going on crutches then I recovered from the pain but my foot was out of alignment. Surgery 14 months later, off my feet for 8 weeks, crutches for 3 to 4 months then back on my feet....kinda. Now surgery again, end of Feb., out of commission due to dead bone in the heel and on crutches for 3 to 4 months and will maintain two 90 gallon tanks. What used to take you 1/2 hr due to the back injury just take your time if it takes 2 hrs. Do it a little at a time, rest then go back to the task but don't throw in the towel.

I agree with Leroy. Hang in Mark. You've been in it for a long time. It's a shame to give it all up.

And as far as Leroy's tanks go I just saw them last week and they look outstanding! Not too shabby for guy on crutches! :)

Um back injuries are a little more serious, Like for instance my left arm just goes out on me every now and then, I have a bone pushing on the nerve, If i aggravate it I could lose control over my left arm.........that or surgery 60/40 not in my favor...

That said do what you need to do, I feel your pain, When you decide to come back LMk I may have stuff available then.......

Hey Mark...sorry about your back...been there, do that. (pretty much every day)

I'll bet there are people here who would offer to help....

Either way, good luck with your back, and good idea to keep your gear....

You could also pick up a Liter Meter III with an Optional pump so it does the water change for you. Just let the RO fill the bucket, add salt & heat for a few hrs & push a button. The next day the RO bucket is empty & the water is changed. ;) :)

Mark- Sad to read your message this AM... Here I am FINALLY setting up my tank after you answered some questions for me almost a year ago! Hope the back is better- I had siatica for 3 months and I couldn't even stand in the shower, so I know how you feel. Only you can make the right decision for yourself that preserves your mobility, helps you to recover, and maintains the things in your life that are important to you.... _Danny

With several weeks of PT in front of me and the pain I'm in now, I don't think I can keep it running. I tore the muscle from the little "wing" on a vertabrae in my lower back. I won't be needing surgery which is a plus. The major problem is my RO unit is in the basement and my tank is upstairs on the first floor. Bringing 5 gallon buckets up and down the stairs is out of the question for me and I wouldn't ask the Mrs. to do it.

Pics coming tonight.

Not trying to convince you to do something you don't want to, but for about $20 you can buy a 50' roll of 1/4 RO tubing at HD, and you could probably run that RO output right up to your tank without moving anything.

Anything I could do for you, being close enough by to be easy, I would be more than happy to make the trips. Otherwise, I support your decision 100 percent as you have to do what you feel is best for you..........I could also keep anything for you that you might want to hang on to to get started again down the road.........I'll be back in town Monday and I'll shoot you a pm......take care of that back!

Mike

Sorry to hear Mark, but I know how you feel (not the back pain though :()

It stinks when you don't have the time for your tank and you start to see all your hard work dwindle away. That's why I decided to put the hobby on hold for awhile too.

Thanks Mike. Let me know when you get home. I'll give it through the weekend before I go further.

Oh Mark, that stinks! I hope that your back is healing nicely, and see you around the boards.

Mark, I will be one to tell you that you are doing the right thing! I hurt my knee at work back in July and had surgery and was on crutches for almost 2 months then in PT for 3 month and I lost so much in my tank and couldnt really take care of any problems. I am just now getting my tank back in order but it may be all for nothing because I have another MRI on Monday and most likely another surgery on the way.

Good Luck with everything.

On another note all my LPS and softies did fine as well as fish (lost 1) so you might be able to get rid of all the hard to keep stuff or just go FO for the time.

Just about his time a yr ago I had back surgery for the 2nd time so I can truly sympathise with your pain as it takes it's toll physically but more importantly it f's with your head.Do what you feel is right!... anyhow on with my story within 1-2 days of being home I had to look under the tank as I wanted to do something even to shuffle over to it and removed a sm board as usual but this time I dropped it and didn't notice till several hrs later it cracked the bottom of my sump:mad::o.20 gals+- (that was a lot of towels)That's was it I had enough. But within 24 hrs I got help from my very talented duaghter. Not sure if I asked for help or not but a few members offered it within a short time as well .... I almost gave in but glad I didn't give now There easier ways(even it it's several smaller trips) to do h2o change and I can help.Pm me if your interested.Remember you can't make a wrong decision on this........it's all good.

Been there too. torn rotator cuff. i ended up finding solutions to deal with the maintanece with out lifting transfer pumps etc. but i can also understand you not wanting to deal with it during your recovery. good luck on what you decide and on your recovery

Sorry to Hear Mark but LMK if i can help, whatever you decide.
