Best way to get rid of Cyano?

they get trapped in strings. but the color is definatley amber, light to dark depending on thickness. I can baste around, and have lots of stringy bubbles float up.

I fought Red slime/cyno for months and months.. Spent tons of money in more pumps.. Tunze 6060 .. Echo Tech Vortechs. .. 40 Gallon water changes a day for a week straight. lights out for 3 days... everything worked for a week or two but then it always came back... Finally i decided to put in a Phosphate reactor... the best thing i ever did!!! At first i ran two "two little fishes" nreactors with phosban.. then eventually switched to a monster Prec Marine from my buddy Sea Creature Aquarium on Mineral spring ave in providence. I also put in an auto feeder to control feedings.. Knock on wood no cyno in 2 months!!!..

Sugar!!

Sugar all so worked for me and worked fast but like (focus) said Try it at your own risk 1/4 tea spoon per gallon every other day but be careful. GO SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also battled cyano, still dealing with it, but it is much less of an issue than before. it was so bad before i came very close to scrapping the whole tank, but.....

what I did (deep breath):
1. added new PC Bulbs
2. added more water flow
3. did more water changes, siphoning away cyano and detritus from the sand
4. cut back on feedings = less nutrients in suspension
5. added macro algae to my sump/fuge for nutrient export
6. added a two little fishies Phosban reactor. 2 thumbs up for this simple inexpensive reactor. i think this really helped
7. cut back on photoperiod from 12 hours per day to 10 hrours per day
8. added a powerfilter with carbon only.

So, yes, it was a battle. but it is now at a manageable level

good luck!
