best way to transport large livestock

I am meeting another member tomorrow who is buying the large eel I have for sale. By the time we meet and they get it home it will probably be 6-7 hours. Can anyone tell me the best way to package this guy up so there will not be any problems and minimal stress on the eel. I am thinking either a 5 gal bucket filled with about 4 gallons of water and trying to tape some heat packs to the side or trying to find some very large plastic fish bags and pack it in those, I have a large styrofoam box I can put the bags in. Will either of these be ok for that period of time? any other suggestions? thanks

I would say 5g bucket with an air bubbler and 2-3 gal of water and the best chunk of PVC that you can fit in there for it to hide in. You can double bag hot tap water and float it for heat if you need it.

5 gallon bucket or a large rubbermaid tub would work, just make sure it is kept warm and aerated.

thanks, just to be sure I thought I read once that running an airstone in a bucket would affect the PH of the water and could hurt the livestock, has anyone heard of this?

When ammonia is a big problem, the fish can be better off in a closed container, so the ph (and temp drop) reduce the effects of the ammonia. I bet the ammonia won't be a big issue after 6 hours.

thanks for the info. I put it in a 5gal with an airstone and heater for most of the time and then put the double bagged hot water in there for the car ride. Just found out it made the trip ok and is in its new home.

thanks again
